I don't see two. Can you type out the other one since the person you are quoting has me blocked?

At any time sounds deceptively common. It's really quite rare. It's not. It's more akin to getting a brand new house and discovering one very small dent in the wall of one of the rooms. It's still a very solid, very new house, but there was one small thing that was a little off.

He didn't say they can't know anything of the world until informed. He said what he wanted might not be available. If I play in his world, I know swords exist before I ever start the first session. I can add a sword to my shopping list. When I get to town, though, there may not be a sword...

That's possible, if Grok is a lying, no good scoundrel. They agreed to help each other back in the beginning and the others risked their lives to help him, so to me that's a fairly good reason for him to help them with their adventures.

Hollywood hasn't even begun casting it yet, but when finished it should go next to The Incredible Mr. Limpet, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb, and Borat.

Yes. 3e lists 7 or 8 different encounter types I think. Encounter hasn't meant "combat" for decades. No. You don't get to brush off people giving XP for bypassing an encounter as something "heavily DM driven." People can and I'm positive do do that in D&D play that is not heavily DM driven...

I said you can do it without prep. Not that prep isn't done. In Sandbox play, DM's generally do prepare encounters in reaction to things the players say and do. They just might not all be prepared.

3e. "Mialee and Tordek stand within the treasure chamber, surveying the riches before them. To get there, they slew three trolls, bypassed several devious traps, and solved the riddle of the golden golem to stop it from crushing them. Now they are not only richer, but from their experiences...

In my experience, conflicting player goals are usually resolved amongst themselves. "Okay, we will help Grok become the barbarian king, and then you guys will help me locate Heward's Mystical Harmonica, then..." Sometimes one or more goals can be accomplished simultaneously.

This is wrong. "Encounter" is generally used to mean, encountered. They are something you come across. That's why you have monster encounters, social encounters, exploration encounters, and so on. Combat is only one possible result of having an encounter.

They are in the shared imagined space. They come from notes, or are improvised by the DM, or random encounters, or... There several ways encounters can show up. His process of play also includes, according to the 1e PHB, bypassing encounters. It's under Avoid Unnecessary Encounters. By...

That seems very hyperbolic. Even if the old man does have information, it will rarely be a fatal mistake to not get the information, let alone likely to end up fatal. The way I run my game is if the players walk into a bar, I will tell them what's there and give some details about everyone...

I give a smaller award if they are aware of and planned the bypass. I don't agree with that. If they go around an ambush that they scouted out and avoid the fight completely, that's still bypassing the encounter even if they get XP for it. The award is for the avoidance, not actually...

These aren't really techniques, but I've found the following really helps with sandbox play. 1. Proactive players. Proactive players will often find something that looks interesting on the map and start researching what's there or even just pick up and go to see. That gets the ball rolling...

Because the PCs can scout ahead unseen and come across an improvised goblin barricade, then decide to bypass it. Or avoid it if you want to use Gygax's favorite term that means bypass. No prep needs to have been done.

You're playing semantical games here. Players choose to sneak in to avoid encountering guards, people they know, etc. Or in other words, they sneak in to avoid having encounters with those people. Gygax used avoid instead of bypass. Same difference. Edit: Gygax actually does use bypass in...

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

I would customize the disciplines, since those are picks the class makes and you don't have to replace any class abilities with similarly balanced new abilities. After that, I'd make more wild talents, but that's not really part of the psion.

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

Yeah. I don't mind them using existing spells. My big issue was with the idea that the sorcerer should just be refluffed. The sorcerer had abilities that didn't really fit a psion and the psion class deserved its own abilities. This UA does that.

Goodman Games Offers Assurances About Judges Guild Royalties

@Morrus Does Goodman Games have to take money that exceeds the threshold? Can it turn back money above and beyond what is required, plus enough to provide the product to the excess backers and make no money off the extras? "If in some way the Kickstarter does exceed this threshold, Goodman...
