    Falling Damage and Stoneskin

I asked Skip Williams this early in 3E (kept the FAQ at that time), by personal email he replied "yes", that's the intent of DR. If I remember I'll dig up the email when I get home.

teleported PCs to random dungeon - where would you put 'em?

I was thinking the same thing. Also the caverns in module A4.

    layoffs?

I'm sure you have your opinions, but what you're saying doesn't line up with what I read anywhere else. Chicago School categorized as Neoliberal -- Chicago school of economics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Chicago School involved in Washington Concensus -- Washington Consensus -...

    Problem player in my group

The following is given in the warmest sense of fellowship, from someone who has been there: You're being a wuss. The worst thing you can do is drop vague hints that you're "considering" dropping him as an option of "last resort". Come on, that's directly telling him that you don't have the...

    layoffs?

Of course, folks should also know that the "Chicago School" of economic thought has been very highly politicized for decades, and a lot of folks think that's exactly what drove us into the current economic trouble: Chicago school (economics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

    layoffs?

    This is corporate political propaganda.

    The Prestige Fallacy

As is often the case now, my experience is wildly different. In a 5-year 3E campaign, out of all the WOTC supplement books, the only single prestige class that anyone thought interesting enough to pursue was: Holy Liberator. It wasn't me (I was DM'ing at the time), but I agreed and it fit...

    The Prestige Fallacy

I really like the idea of prestige classes when I read it in the 3.0 DMG. I liked the idea of campaign-specific organizational themes. But I think the idea went off the rails from there, partly for WOTC business reasons: Players bought them as power-ups. They took up more page count than a...

Should Monsters use sneaky tactics in combat??

The real killer thing is to put it at the bottom of a pit so it can fire upwards with all 10 eyestalks. All that's spelled out explicitly in the 1E MM.

Valid use of Wall of Ice?

Well yeah, that's what I said re: "The change into a cylinder, et. al., was a glitch", and, "Subject to unstated space limitations".

Valid use of Wall of Ice?

I agree that by the rules, the bone devil should have been capable of casting a hemispherical wall of ice to trap the character, no save. (Subject to unstated space limitations, I suppose.) The change into a cylinder, et. al., was a glitch. But that actually bought your party an extra round of...

Where is 4E incomplete? Forked: Does 4E have staying power?

You're wrong. The Monster Manual has "Core Rulebook III" on the cover. Monster Manual III does not. Complete Divine does not. (Looking at Amazon covers.) You'll need a quote from Wizards if you wish to assert otherwise.

    layoffs?

That was the intent, but many current analysts see it as doing exactly the opposite; i.e., that it further encourages short-term profits (until executives can sell stock) at the price of long-term corporate health. From the New Yorker "World of Business"...

    Traps with Onset Delays

I think this is an attempt by 3E designers to simulate a 1E "Tomb of Horrors" style trap, like this: "Stone block starts dropping, DM counts to 5, anyone who doesn't say they're running is automatically crushed." It's not perfect in 3E, tying it to the round cycle. But to me this seems like a...

    4e & Internet Sales

Technically, my answer would need to be "All of the above." Because I buy no 4E product.

Do you like XP costs for magic item creation?

Counterintuitively, I found that it worked out exactly the opposite for my long-running 3E cleric. I (a) crafted items like crazy, (b) they upped my survivability, (c) I died less than anyone else in the party, so (d) I wound up ahead of everyone else in levels.

    AD&D Kobold picture

Two types (see Wikipedia). (a) Semi-good house spirits. (b) Evil mine spirits. Linguistically, Kobold -> Cobalt, poisonous chemical in the ore you're trying to mine (thought to be a trap by evil spirits).
