I played Elite Dangerous for the longest time after it came out, but stopped maybe a year after Horizons came out. It was a great game, but the unbalanced PvP and lack of an official multiplayer PvE mode killed it for me. Not sure how those aspects have developed since then.

A neat approach would be assessing worlds for Federation membership and finding that, while in some respects the prospective members need to do some work in order to measure up, in others it's the Federation that needs to work to measure up to being worth joining.
