WOTC "Dungeon" CD: old dungeon generator

Well, here's a photo of the CD with the Dungeon Issue in question. It ran fine on Wine without any issues. I used to have two copies of the CD, one from Dungeon #87 and one from Dragon #284, but I might have given one away. The menu makes me think that it was also included with Top Deck and Star...

WOTC "Dungeon" CD: old dungeon generator

It's from Dungeon #87. I own the issue and the CD, but I'm currently in the process of moving, so I can't check it out easily. I'll take a look, later. https://paizo.com/products/btpy7tq5?Dungeon-Issue-87 It was actually the first issue of Dungeon I purchased when I got into D&D from other systems.

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

Exactly, how dare those stock photos to copy Marvel's art?

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

@Charlaquin I don't think the march of progress is slowing down any time soon. And that's the way I like it. As should you, considering how flawed your arguments are. There are still tons of jobs for humans. Not only in the care or social sector but also craftsmen (craftpeople? craftfolk?) are...

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

@Charlaquin "I don't care what the law says, it's unethical to me!" isn't a great offense, either. And lamplighters became a curiosity at best once electrical lighting got introduced. Similar to portrait painters and photography. And maybe mediocre artists and Stable Diffusion. The technology...

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

@Charlaquin If AI can create art without infringing on an artists copyright, I don't take an artist's product without paying. I'm taking a product comparable to what an artist is offering without paying the artist. As long as the training data doesn't infringe on artists' copyright (which is...

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

@Mecheon I guess AI art really crushes the dreams of aspiring artists to be chosen not because their skill and talent but because they are cheap. Their are lot of pretty bad illustrations with wrong proportions in RPG books, all done by actual human beings. There are also lifeless CGI...

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

But AI art improves the quality of life for many, many people. It grants access to the creation of images without needing to consult an artist. It somewhat diminishes the artists' privilege of creating art, but I would argue that humans are still able to create superior art. Stable Diffusion can...

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

Do you feel that way about any invention that has destroyed people's livelihood or on only when it affects people you care about? The Neolithic Revolution put many hunters and most gatherers out of their job. Once people figured out how to work with copper and bronze, stonechipping became far...

WotC So it seems D&D has picked a side on the AI art debate.

I still think it's less about ethics in art and more about the justified fear of losing one's livelihood, which, while tragic for those affected, has happened many times throughout history (like photography making portraits more widely available). Many jobs done by programmers today might also...

    WotC WotC D&D Community Update

1D&D can't be a new edition since it hasn't been officially released. So far, it's obviously just the draft of a new edition.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo announced Tian Xia World Guide, Character Guide, and the Season of Ghosts adventure path.

I get the meta discussion. You might even find me rather pretty close to your position. But I think judging an unreleased book by its cover isn't the right way to do it. I'd be happy to participate in a discussion of a perceived trend of sillification in RPGs.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo announced Tian Xia World Guide, Character Guide, and the Season of Ghosts adventure path.

Guide to Ravenloft wasn't published by Paizo (and not by White Wolf, either, who did a pretty good job back in the day to make the Core a coherent setting). And the parts written by people who shared the cultural background represented by those regions were less goofy than the rest. Portraying...

The AP accompanying the Tia-Xia is horror themed. I wouldn't worry about goofiness too much.

Pathfinder 2E Paizo announced Tian Xia World Guide, Character Guide, and the Season of Ghosts adventure path.

Agents of Edgewatch is not the most recent AP, but it's pretty edgy, including lots of slasher NPCs and locations.

D&D 5E (2014) WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

It's not the mechanics I fear for, it's the setting. The mechanics of Ravenloft were okay (I didn't like the changes to Power Checks), but they destroyed the Core as a coherent setting that White Wolf (and WotC before them) had brought together.
