AD&D 1E Tell me about your AD&D 1E house rules

1e that was so long ago.... here is a few that I remember... 1) falling damage is d20 per 10 feet. Then roll 1d6 and divide the total of the d20s by the result of the d6. Still use this one. 2) XP.... If you single handedly kill a monster you get all the XP for it. 3) XP... first time...

D&D Movie/TV Chris Pine To Star In D&D Movie

I think if they set out to make a D&D movie it will flop. However... if they set out to make Dragonlance or Icewind Dale.... well then we have a chance at getting something decent.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is there a limit to falling damage?

I have always used d20 for every 10 ft then divide that by the result of a d6. Average ends up being a little less than the d6 per 10 ft method for lower falls. But the maximum is much higher.

    How Do You One-Shot?

My favorite one shot is White Plume Mountain. Lots of puzzles, traps, and interesting rooms with 3 distinct paths.

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Balor

The hobbit thing is a bit convoluted.... the name hobbit actually pre-dates Tolkien and he made up halfling. But the agreement was to not use hobbit and they could use halfling. go figure.

D&D 5E (2014) Oh no! They want to play a "bad" adventure

See if you can find a story hour or two on this adventure. Read through it and it may give you some ideas.

OSR At What Level Is Survivability Possible?

Yes, the Footman's Flail..... My cleric/fighter got a +2 one from Assassin's Knot. Even with my -2 non prof penalty it was put to good use.

D&D General Two underlying truths: D&D heritage and inclusivity

So... orcs... Yes, I agree having them created by an evil god is an issue with their free will. How about make Gruumsh a mythological champion of the orcs that unites them. I don't think we need an origin story. Redo orcs in the image of Klingons.

OSR At What Level Is Survivability Possible?

I actually used those weapon adjustments. One of the dragon magazines had a cardboard cutout. You could look up the your level, the weapon and the AC and it would show you what you needed to roll. It was a game changer for me.

OSR At What Level Is Survivability Possible?

I don't know anything about your particular flavor of OSR. But I did play a lot of 1e and 2e. How did we survive from level 1? - hirelings, henchmen, and war dogs. war dogs were particularly effective as they attacked as well as a 5th level fighter. What level does it start to be more...

D&D General Frylock on the ‘Ineffectual OGL’

eh, his arguments are not new. They were all around when WOTC released 3.0. Only difference is that it seems he is willing to challenge WOTC on it. The OGL basically boils down to a gentlemen's agreement that WOTC won't sue you if you abide by these rules. There has always been the option...

D&D General Use and abuse of an item

My wizard I am playing just reached 18th level. 1) that 9d6 is not guaranteed - it depends on environment. spell resistance and saving throw often apply. Plus I believe the SR is based off of CL 9 and the save would be based of Int 15. So, maybe you can injure a flunky or lieutenant but not...

    AD&D 2E 2e, the most lethal edition?

I believe they were designed to be deadly. But I do not believe they were designed to be 'extra deadly than how the game was designed to be played at home' What is your evidence that this is an objective fact?

    AD&D 2E 2e, the most lethal edition?

I disagree. The 1e modules were originally designed for tournaments. But they were sold to the public, people bought them, and they greatly influenced how the game was played. I am proposing that the general play style in 1e was more lethal. How the game is played has as much influence on...

    AD&D 2E 2e, the most lethal edition?

    1) You cannot exclude the modules in analysis of which edition is more deadly. These were as much a part of 1e and 2e as the rules. We used them over and over again. They also influenced how we designed our own adventures. - 1e modules where much more deadly than anything that came later on...

Pathfinder 2E Game Trade Media playtest video

I was presuming that there were very few 1 action spells. Not in PF2 but in 3.0 it was an issue, that's why Haste was changed (either errata or by 3.5) so casters could not cast 2 spells per round. I guess we will have to see how powerful this is and how it balances with the mundanes...

Pathfinder 2E Game Trade Media playtest video

That is what I am thinking as well. But since most spells take 2 actions to cast, that would mean you could cast 2 spells a round. Which was determine (and rightly so IMO) to be too powerful. So, somehow they need to restrict it from spell casting which of course goes contrary to "do...
