How hard is learning a new TTRPG system?

Learning new systems isn't usually hard, but bad decisions at the editing stage can be a real problem. The last new-to-me system I learned was Unknown Armies, where a lot of the character sheet is about the mental wear and tear the characters suffer. What would be a SAN number in CoC has as much...

Name some of your best Party Origin methods

I've had good success with "You've been hired as new members of the city police." I've also done well in a steampunk campaign with "The inventor PC has come to visit the inventor NPC. The widowed young aristocratic lady was visiting the inventor NPC's wife." The huge-DEX acrobat got hired to...

Graphic Design and the Aesthetics of Tabletop RPGs

Monospaced fonts aren't really good for reading long texts. Classic serif fonts like Times are a better bet.

Graphic Design and the Aesthetics of Tabletop RPGs

That's good, but serifed text is usually more readable to limited vision.

Graphic Design and the Aesthetics of Tabletop RPGs

I'm afraid you just lost me as a potential customer. I'm partially sighted, and white text on a back page is a hard no. One of the reasons I never really got into D&D3e was the "atmospheric" page backgrounds, which made reading the text unnecessarily hard.

What's Your "Sweet Spot" for a Skill system?

We usually handle that with "Roll, just don't fumble." It works pretty well.

Explore the Mystical and Historical in 'Grimoires of the Unseen': A New TTRPG Experience

This is potentially interesting. Making large claims about "historical accuracy" may be unwise. For example, I presume you don't intend to accurately portray historical levels of religious prejudice?

    Make It Yourself

Sadly, there is a significant difference between games nobody wants, and games that only a few people want. The latter are not commercially viable, but tempt a company to carry on losing money by trying to find a way to tweak their game into selling better. You can end up losing more money that way.

    Grade the GURPS System

Well, no. A campaign generally starts in a specific genre, although this may be quite tightly or loosely defined. For example, the genre of "This campaign is about retrieving the fragments of the Rod of Seven Parts from the dungeons where they are known to be hidden" is rather more specific than...

    Make It Yourself

I created a new school of magicians in my long-running AD&D/OD&D world simply because I realised they belonged there. Five or so years later, a player asked to run one, so I gave him the specification, and he's been doing nicely with it: different, without being over-powerful.

    Everyone should play Nobilis, really

I had a copy of the first edition, don't know what happened to it. Didn't read very far into it. The line that said that Stephen R Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant was an example of the kind of story the game was for put me right off it.

    Make It Yourself

Are you sure about "thousands" there? A thousand hours would be 40 hours a week for 25 weeks. You also seem to be conflating three things: Designing a rules system from scratch, which is a lot of work, modifying a rules system for a particular campaign, and generating your own settings and...

    Make It Yourself

Nobody publishes the stuff I want to run, so I have no choice but to create it myself. I take inspiration from many sources, and sometimes re-purpose scenario outlines from other games, but I have to do most of the work myself. I've always found the key to that was in creating stuff that was...

June 1940. The central government of British India is at the summer capital, Simla (nowadays spelled Shimla). There is an outbreak of murders and attempted murders by strangling.
