WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

Well, higher levels are a thing that can cause consternation - even for the most fluid of tables. At least, that has been my experience.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

Oh, that is an odd take. Sorry if you took it that way. That is not what I was implying. I was just bragging about how lucky I've been.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

No, they're not. They end the fight without anyone getting punched and damaged. ;)

    What makes a TTRPG tactical?

I understand that point of view. That is one of the reasons I started the definition with "...in common TTRPG speech." I think there is an argument to be made that typical speech and definitions often outweigh the more nuanced and knowledgeable definitions for things that have depth.

    Be a GAME-MASTER, not a DIRECTOR

Not at all. Unrealistic expectation placed on a GM are not real. They are either placed there by the GM themselves, or they are playing with the wrong players, or they aren't capable (or willing) of doing the work needed to be a good GM. Note - Wrong players meaning they just aren't a right...

    Be a GAME-MASTER, not a DIRECTOR

Yeah, rereading it sounds toxic. But my thought is really, we've all seen players like this. I have played with several of them, and, while I prefer players that are much more prepped, these players do play. Therefore, there really isn't a need to dismiss them, just like the video dismisses DMs...

    Be a GAME-MASTER, not a DIRECTOR

It's odd they instantly gravitate towards DM prep and the burnout it causes. My favorite tables as a player were ones the DMs put a lot of work into. My least favorites, the ones where they did a lot of improv. Burnout is only a thing if you don't enjoy doing it. People who like being a DM...

How Dragonbane Pointed out the Clashing Desires of My Gaming Group

Your description of what they want can be 5e. You and the other can still get your jam on with roleplaying while the other two wait or are in a separate "cutscene." I mean, honestly, what you are describing is found at a lot of tables. It's just most tables have players that understand not all...

    What makes a TTRPG tactical?

I think in common TTRPG speech, tactical is actually equated to numbers and math and bonuses and effects - and the ability to make a choice that creates them. For some, advantage/disadvantage is tactical because the player moved their character to a flanking position and not has advantage. For...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

As a vote, I have never really been frustrated with 5e... or 4e... or 2e. But, I suppose, that is because I have been lucky and fortunate to have played all these games with great people.

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Out of curiosity, how do you handle something like an orc? For my world, I have it in more of a cursed form: long life, unable to control emotion, not able to procreate, bound by its curse, etc. The cursed magic infected a large population and turned them slowly, making them even significant...

    D&D General Godless Settings

This was what I was going to suggest. A god filled land, but it was debated as to whether they actually exist.

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Yeah, even though I haven't played a lot of PF2, I like what they did to their monsters. That said, I still think the best way to handle it is to create your own unique sources for the problematic ancestry monsters of you choose to use them like undead, demons, etc.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

I went with one. Most of their actions have little impact on me, and in my opinion, the common consumer. The OGL outrage, the twisting of truths, etc. are really only seen by the deep fans. That said, WotC often responds to those deep fans because those deep fans are in a unique position over...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Like all RPG philosophies, what is espoused is often contradicted by what is in practice. The "bad" DM May I scenario is only relevant for some when discussing backgrounds or species or point buy. Yet, at other junctions of the game, DM May I is wholly accepted. I really think it boils down...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Well, to be fair the internet forums have never really been the place to see diversity of opinion. I think, and I have said this many times before on here, that if we all sat down at each other's tables, the game would run just fine. In fact, we'd probably see a 99% commonality in the game when...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Both of these are true. But there are a lot of things in D&D that you can point a finger at that operate under this same premise. DMs allowing Tasha's +2/+1. This was fought by many, and caused enough debate to warrant several hundred page threads on this site. DMs allowing certain races has...

I like underdogs, so I am going to finger-cross that your fighter with crossbow & shield makes it to fourth level, and then retires from adventuring because he realizes he's just gotten lucky. ;)

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Well, the thing is, I never said that. I have repeated the same thing over and over. Notice in both of these, the only thing I say is that a turn will take longer, and therefore, by proxy, a round will take longer. If there are fewer rounds, then it might even out or even shorten combat. We do...
