D&D 5E (2024) What old monsters should return to 5e?

There are so many still missing that to me are part of the classic D&D. Some that I am missing coming back to D&D with 2024 are: Eye of the Deep. Lurker Above/Lurker Below. Vodyanoi. Pyro/Cryo-Hydra. Gem Dragons. Para and Quasi Elementals. Gorbel. Quicklings. And really I want to see templates...

    D&D 5E (2024) Wights and Life Drain

Greater Restoration. I had missed that too. Must read more closely.

It's GM's Day! Tell us about your first GM!

I was about 14 years old and had been wanting to get into D&D since I was about 9. My GM was a guy named Chris (and we are still contact all but a couple hundred miles between us). He wasn't all that into D&D but introduced me to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Runequest and Call of Cthulhu...

Thank you. I knew I'd be missing something.

    D&D 5E (2024) Wights and Life Drain

Quick question... In the new 2024 Monster Manual the Wight entry has a Life Drain attack. It says that it deals damage and the target's hit point maximum drops by an equal amount. However, it doesn't say how this is overcome. I couldn't see anything in the spells section that gives a way to...

D&D Launches New Eberron-Themed Playtest With Dragonmarked Feats

My apologies. The Dragonmark feats were what I was referring to. Fingers typing faster than my brain. :)

D&D Launches New Eberron-Themed Playtest With Dragonmarked Feats

My homebrew world has an artifice based realm (Think Piltover from Arcane/LoL) so this will fit perfect for there. I'll ignore the Eberron specific requirements as it gives more options for the players.

D&D General Do You Use "D&D" As Code For "RPGs"?

D&D is a brand name that a lot people outside of the hobby know of. They probably won't know Pathfinder ..etc. In the past I used to say "like D&D" if playing something else.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

My first experience with them, as Maedar, that I recall was in Dragon magazine, probably early into 2nd edition. After that they started to appear in other monster books. They didn't have the snake hair or petrifying gaze though.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

I'm not a fan of it but I'll just use the classic imagery. It's something I have noticed with this Monster Manual - changing established appearances, lore/creature types and genders when there is no need to. For me, I'll just stick to the classic imagery that has been D&D for decades.

D&D General Feats are in. What is the current feel about multiclassing?

I allow it but next to one bothers any more. That was more of a 3rd edition thing with us. Under the new 2024, it's generally better to focus on your chosen class over trying to stick another class on. In my current Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign only one player has bothered to multiclass and that...

    Dice etiquette, rules, and superstitions

If a dice rolls on the floor then you pick it up and re-roll it on the table. Can't hit the table you can't hit the opponent after all. Never touch someone else's dice without their permission and only then if you really have to. It's bad luck for them and you.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

I never looked at Zeitgeist but I did run War of the Burning Sky for Pathfinder 1st a good few years back. My group enjoyed Burning Sky but the one minor niggle was that it was a campaign based around it's own setting. We would prefer a campaign that can be dropped into an established setting or...

D&D General What's your second favorite edition of D&D?

Pathfinder 1st edition since it is D&D 3.75 but if you want D&D specifically, I'd have to say 2nd edition.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

My thoughts and my votes... * High level PC spells make the game harder for DMs to account for: An inexperienced DM problem. I've seen newer DM's plan overland encounters and scenes only for the players to call teleport or overland flight, bypassing everything the DM had planned. It's why our...

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

For me, pretty much this. There are few and fare between high level adventures, and I've yet to find a full adventure path style campaign that goes 1st to 20th for 5th edition.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do We Really Need Levels 11-20?

I think the whole going up to 20th is one of those sacred cows in built to Dungeons & Dragons that fits the game's legendary status (struggling to think of the right turn of phrase). It's the same as alignment, beholders', chromatic/metallic dragons, vorpal swords...etc. When we think of D&D, at...
