    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts On The Meh 5E Adventures.

It's all about the hook for me. If the theme does not spark my imagination I just don't touch it. ToA was possibly the best D&D campaign I have ever run and I did that pretty much as written. It had so much room for flexibility. PoTA was pretty good, but a lot of that was me transferring it to...

D&D General Matt Colville on adventure length

I'm going to go against the consensus here. I much prefer the long campaigns. As a time poor DM it is much easier for me to know what is coming up and how it fits into what has come before than to try and jimmy together a series of unrelated modules and try and make a story out of it. Tomb of...

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

It's been a couple of sessions since I last posted here, but the group defeated the spider, took the two Rockseeker brothers back to Phandalin and went back to Wave Echo cave to clear it out ready for mining. Once close call and one permadeath. The giant octopus reached out, grappled the...

D&D 5E (2024) OneD&D to feature yet unseen new game mechanic!

April 1st was yesterday. You're living in the past*. *Note, the author of this post lives in New Zealand which is 17 hours ahead of America (Washington).

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

Another session this week. Agatha the banshee went without a hitch. Then back to town where a strange illness is going around. One of the characters has formed a physical relationship with sister Garaele and was quiet worried about her. She is very ill. They did not try and work out the...

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

Last night the group decided to do some of the side quests while Gundren gathers supplies to go to the lost mine. They went to Wyvern Tor and cleared it well after a long battle. In the cave they found an unlabelled map of Thundertree with an x showing on the tower. I had not fed them that side...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Woohoo. I suggested just this two years ago in a thread. A multiverse spanning adventure collecting segments of the Rod of Seven Parts. https://www.enworld.org/threads/you-are-pitching-the-next-big-wotc-adventure-what-is-it.685396/post-8515959

D&D 5E (2014) Can I use action surge in the middle of another action (between attacks when attacking with extra attack)?

There is no rule explicitly against it, it isn't OP, and its clever thinking by the player. I'd allow it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

Do you need a particularly good computer to GM a game on foundry? My computer is good enough to run BG3 but is certainly not top of the range.

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

Ooo. This looks better than roll20. I might change when the new PHB comes out on Foundry.

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

I suggest mentioning it in the middle of lots of other stuff. I mentioned it as the heroes were being feted for their heroics and all the sidequests were coming in to them. I didn't want them to try and find the missing villagers yet.

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

I've really appreciated your in detail breakdown of your sessions. I'm quite a way behind you and it has helped me with avoiding issues in the module. Villagers and Harbin have mentioned to my group several times now about an unusual number of villagers disappearing. They've said that given the...

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

Phew. A big game. The group now have all the sidequests from the townsfolk but decided to make their way to Cragmaw Castle after finding out where it is. On the way the group were ambushed by Glasstaff and a cohort of hobgoblins. They killed the hobgoblins and captured Glasstaff taking him back...

    D&D General Fifty Years

My friend and I had really gotten into Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks. We read that D&D was like that, only better. In 1980 we saved up enough pocket money together to buy the red box. I've been playing ever since (apart from a couple of years of travelling the world).

D&D 5E (2014) A playthrough of The Shattered Obelisk (spoilers)

We restarted our game last night. The party went into the redcloak hideout and cleared out the right side of it. They found the prisoners and took them back into town before deciding to take a long rest in the stonehill tavern as they were hurt and out of spell slots. They were worried about...

D&D General Has Sensitivity and Inclusion gone too far?

It amazes me that people can get so angry about the world becoming slightly less bigoted. It really threatens them.

    D&D General D&D Loyalty?

Not loyal, but invested. I have bought so much of their stuff that it is easier to keep playing D&D than buy and learn new systems. Especially since I am with a group that really enjoy D&D.

    D&D 5E (2014) What are the different 'tones' supported by 5e D&D?

I'd agree. D&D doesn't do most tones as well as game systems designed for those tones. But it is an easy system to learn and to bend to almost any tone you want.

    D&D 5E (2014) What are the different 'tones' supported by 5e D&D?

Don't forget horror. All sorts of options from gothic to cthuluesque.
