And then you get DCC Lankhmar and they aren't very Lankhmarry, only Greyhawk is Lankhmarry.

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworked…revised…redone….but

Not 100% true. Some conversion documents for 3.0 to 3.5 rules were almost as big as the original product. Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil essentially would have needed a rewrite to work with 3.5 and the nerfing of spells essentially undermined City of the Spider-Queen. The changes were so...

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworked…revised…redone….but

and Cthulhu 1st-6th edition were all minor tweaks each time as well. Even 7th is essentially the same game with less complicated mathing. It's an edition but also, its not 6e. Its like AD&D2e Revised but not uglier than a Rob Zombie movie.

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

All of those platforms report heavy financial losses every year and scaled back and canceled most of their projects to get to profitability outside of Amazon which is supported by their Prime members subscriptions which has been around for longer and their inhouse cloud services which host a...

WotC How much does Hasbro / WotC impact your feelings towards D&D?

Outside of the OGL fiasco? I am a big fan of the folks that work on D&D, heck I love Hasbro for Marvel Legends and Transformers. The people who work on these three properties obviously love what they do for a living. Especially the WOTC team as they DO largely work independently of Hasbro...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

OK I picked mine up Saturday. I can't say I was wrong but I was right. My original prediction was that it would be a slightly reworked version of 5e with new layout, tweaked main classes and added subclasses and new art. A complete refresh top to bottom and I was right. There isn't enough to...

Sell Me on Dungeon Crawl Classics For Long term Play, and NO Funnels

P1: Generally the number of adventures needed is roughly equivalent to the level (except for 1st, 2 adventures) in my experience but depending on the encounter difficulty it is 1-3 XP per encounter. Leveling isn't random, much like D&D you can control it. I plan my adventures out based on the...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

Did I say it did make it alright? My comment literally did not say it was alright. In fact I said it was not.

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

Not only his sexism but was an acceptable joke at that time in popular culture. So it was an inherent cultural phenomenon.

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

It's a fair article but I have one point of contention: Tiamat is a Sumerian goddess, she was a dragon and she personified chaos so Gygax and Kuntz were following actual mythology with the Queen of the Dragons. Doesn't take away from the idea it is inherently sexist but they chose a goddess who...

D&D 5E (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

The 3e FRCS is another great example, Kingdoms of Kalamar as well. Golarion is well done in original Pathfinder. Wildemount, Taldorei are also great examples. Pretty much the majority of the 5e setting books, including the SCAG. I really like the SCAG. Usually though it is the smaller...

D&D 5E (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

Greyhawk is my favorite D&D setting and yeah joy is not the word for it! It was practical to the point of asking “did Ben Stein write this in the voice of his Ferris Bueller character?”

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Greyhawk offers a lot. Beyond the 50th anniversary it is also a setting where immense depth can be explored and exploited in 24-32 pages. It’s easy to make your own as a DM. It’s darker with more comparison to The Witcher than to Tolkien without being overwhelming and it has those shades of...

D&D 5E (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

I offer for your consideration that the book, The Living Greyhawk Gazetteer was a boring read that I slogged through. I enjoyed the Journal but the book was boring, offered nothing really and the little thin Gazetteer that they put out a few months before was a much better presentation. Had...
