WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

They did. It's on their website as a free pdf. There is also the Essentials boxed set.

WotC WotC can, and probably should support multiple editions of D&D.

My own TL;DR is that the RPG industry does not generate enough money for one publisher, even the 1800 lbs gorilla that is WOTC and D&D, to justify the cost at all and the sales would be so miniscule in comparison to the new thing that it would read as a loss. They're doing what even CHaosium...

D&D 5E (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

erm, from the Ashes, Living Greyhawk both made a lot of changes to the setting. The setting was originally static and a lot of us prefer it that way what happens can be focused on the PCs and not keeping up with what WOTC is going to do with the setting. My preferred era is From the Ashes, I...

Looking at page counts, the deities book is the only thing I don’t see getting reprinted but could be wrong.

Did I not say that already? I could swear I said that in my original post. Oh yes, I actually did. yep there it is, I said that. So my point the Paladin wasn’t based on historical precedent stands and has a strong bearing on the development of the class through 3.x. The developers at TSR for 2e...

Thieves, the original rogue, was, much like the Paladin, based on a specific character, Grey Mouser. Right down to using magic user scrolls.

    D&D General Deleted

The problem is that D&D Paladins, like the original ranger, are based on one specific character from a specific book that was highly influential on Gygax and his approach to D&D including the Troll, Werewolf, how he handled elves and dwarves and it wasn't someone in Lord of the Rings. The...

D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

:-O You take that back! Warduke is cooler than He-man and Venger will eat your little piggies!

D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

I think it will be a slow adoption. Of course it will sell well, but if it is still backward compatible it will be a year or two before we can see its real install and usage base. 4e taught us that first 4-12 months can be illusory.

And that edition will occur after being on ice for a few years with more... nostalgia products to keep the brand in the periphery
