D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

There is a massive difference. One is removing the option to not use the feats. The other is here you have to use feats but we have a bone for those who don’t want to… take a feat. As a DM I don’t want them forcing an optional rule on me.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Now fix that “if you don’t want to take a fear take this feat” stupidity and make feats an optional rule again.

    D&D 5E (2024) "The Future of D&D" (New Core Books in 2024!)

And a lot of those are still optional and the DMG goes into more detail.

    D&D 5E (2024) "The Future of D&D" (New Core Books in 2024!)

The DMG is only fluff if you’re a long time DM. Otherwise I think it’s now been proven it’s essential with all the YouTube influencers making videos about broken games and missing rules that if they actually read the book they claim you don’t need to read they would see either there is already a...

    D&D 5E (2024) "The Future of D&D" (New Core Books in 2024!)

Yeah it’s given me faith. I’ll buy the new core books but probably stick to the old ones unless they’re obviously better. We mostly play DCC but I do still love 5e.

D&D 5E (2014) 5E Lifetime Sales in North American Big Box Stores Revealed

Fans listen? I can't think of a fan group that actually listens, at least to a direct source, more than to a speculative or side source or mostly to anecdotal sources. Toy sales, for example, in some fan groups, are so overanalyzed that fans will convince themselves that their favorite toyline...

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

There is a flaw in the arguments made with this, it assumes the players in older editions find all the treasure and they figured out how to get it all OUT of the dungeons they are exploring. Unlike 3.x to 5e where it is raw experience points for overcoming the encounter, treasure as XP is only...

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

All this really reminds me why when 3e came it it was such a breath of fresh air because it really was basically... 2e without the warts and a working skill system and most of our house rules made core. But then they added a whole other layer of "well fudge" to it with the character creation...

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

A feature, not a bug ;-) I miss the slower leveling myself. It's why D&D now feels like a superhero game, characters level up so fast and get so many powers and spells that within 3 months it's basically playing Champions or Mutants & Masterminds. Even in AD&D once the equipment or spellbooks...

    AD&D 2E On AD&D 2E

I loved 2e for a bit, I started on a 0e/Greyhawk and 1e PHB hybrid and we got 2e in 1991 but still used a mishmash of 1e, 0e and 2e sources since they were really easy to use together. What I liked was the new way of doing Thieves so they weren't so ineffective before level 4 unless they were...

D&D General New AD&D and Basic set D&D action figures.

Spector Creative barely knows what he is talking about half the time and his bias is more than worn on his sleeve, it's his entire shirt. He's been caught either lying or just plain wrong and doubled down so many times that he makes a politician look honest. His knowledge is based on Online...

D&D General New AD&D and Basic set D&D action figures.

The LJN figures are coming from NECA with modern versions and some reissues, or rather releases of unreleased figures at SDCC last year. The new "Ultimate" figures are amazing and so far it is Warduke and Grimsword with Zarak and Strongheart in September-ish. They are also HUGE for 7" scale...

    TSR Appendix N Discussion

You are factually incorrect. Elf before Tolkien did indeed include beautiful human people all the way down to dwarves depending on the culture and the different cultures had a shared etymology for the word coming from Aelfr/Alfr etc. the word Orc also has etymological antecedents, including as...

    TSR Appendix N Discussion

And Anderson said he read the Hobbit in the early 50s which would be after he wrote the original 3H & 3L. It’s ok to say oh he added on the later expansion. It’s cool to do that and acknowledge they used similar sources and Anderson was paying homage to Tolkien in the later expansion to the...
