    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

The Last Jedi is amazing and I love it. Yeah, my phrasing got drunk or something. I love that escalating view of how badly wrong things have gotten so quickly. What I meant to say is that the remake doesn’t have a scene to match the one inside the newsroom as everything goes to hell, and that I...

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

I will go to the mats for the Dawn of the Dead remake - parts of it are better than their counterparts in the original, and apart from the opening scene, none are worse. And then there’s all the rest of his stuff. Carry on.

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

It may even be the case that at the moment it was written, the carrion crawler’s stats didn’t contain a strange loop. Then something changed on the condition description end, and now it did. I have had that experience more than once when working on early supplements for a new game or new...

Thanks, @Eyes of Nine ; definitely low on the boffo laffs scale. I like it when I can note positive influences on my reading.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Very true, @Hussar. Our kitties got a new cat tree this week. Moonrise likes the lower levels. Sunset is in love with the heights. She has never been so high up, as an indoor cat in home that has no furniture so tall.

How do you put aside your own feelings when reading?

I agree with what others have suggested, that it’s easier to do this when young. Over time, particularly if you and/or people you care about suffer grief and loss created by adherents of view X, you’re going to have a harder time approaching works built with X in creators’ minds. And rightly so...

What are you reading in 2025?

In addition to ongoing political stress, I had extra familial and health stresses lately, including two hypertensive episodes on successive days. Blood pressure of around 190/120 plus autonomic nervous failures feels weird but not in a way I recommend to anyone. I read shallowly. I did finish...

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

Yup. Talk with anyone in mainstream publishing, or for that matter textbook and technical reference publishing, and you’ll hear amazing stories. The upper tiers of rpg publishing are actually about as good as it gets. People who doubt this are likely not reading enough in unrelated fields.

What are you reading in 2025?

Yess, I did mean McCaffrey. Good to double-check, though, so I did. If anyone wants to look up stupid details, the words “tent peg” will get you there. But honestly, don’t bother. Just typical last-century ignorance and lack of self-reflection.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, now you’ve done it. That distant rumble is from a veritable army of angry Gnostics heading this way. When it comes to you versus their direct experience of the pleroma, well, I hope not to get caught in between.

What are you reading in 2025?

Homophobia, including the idea that annal rape is responsible for making men gay, alienated a significant chunk of her fans.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Ohhhhh yeah. This makes it all much easier to handle on my end.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Right. I made some additions to my ignore list this morning for people mostly behaving okay. But what they want out of RPGs us so utterly different from my wants and therefore assessments of what games are good or bad are really not in the same universe as me. So I ignored them because I kept...
