for the "core only" purists - availability of PrCs by class

So in a "core rules only" game, can the players take the leadership feat without DM permission?

OK, here is the official I gave up on this series thread!

Actually more of a DS9 reference than a TOS reference.

for the "core only" purists - availability of PrCs by class

Core-only, not core-exactly. You only need the 3 core books, but we do not use all of the optional rules. And not something less, we actually find this an addition by subtraction.

for the "core only" purists - availability of PrCs by class

My game is core only and avoids prestige-class bias by not allowing any of them. All character concepts are dealt with via the core classes.

OK, here is the official I gave up on this series thread!

I've gave up on Surface after one episode. I've given up on E/R several times but my gf keeps dragging me back in. I've almost given up on BSG because it isn't that trilling to me. I haven't given up on South Park, though sometimes its lean. I haven't given up on the Simpsons, though sometimes...

    Scaling initiative

Rather than add +2 if you are four levels higher, why not just add +1 every two levels. Thus if you are four levels higher you will effectively get +2, if you are six, you'll get +3. I don't like tying it to Reflex save as that gives rogues even better initiative than everyone else, but giving...

GM's What do you do to prepare for a game?

My 12-step programs is: 1) Think about planning for two weeks. 2) Whenever I have free time to plan, surf EnWorld instead. 3) The night before resolve to do some actual planning. 4) Watch TV or go out instead. 5) Resolve to get up early. 6) Oversleep. 7) Resolve to leave work early (we game on...

Wierdest Thing at the Game Table

One player brought a fog machine to show how obscuring mist would really work. Another player brought a rare coin that was worth thousands of dollars and handed it around like it as a trinket. But nothing as wierd as the vibrator.

Rate Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (DVD Release Status: In Flux)

I think a D&D TV series could be very cool. I wouldn't want an entirely episodic show like Hercules, but you could follow the characters through their adventures and have the series build to a spectacular conclusion: Think B5, DS9, or the new BSG done in a fantasy style. The writers might have...

Rate Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (DVD Release Status: In Flux)

The worst thing is I recorded the whole thing while I was at work and watched it late into the night, and dang if the tape didn't cut out at the two-hour point. (I desperately need TiVo.) Luckily I got to fastforward through the commersials, and there is a replay Thursday so I can catch the...

Rate Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (DVD Release Status: In Flux)

Considering the teleport spells, someone was at least 9th.

    It's a Wand! It's a Crossbow Bolt! It's a Floor Wax!

How about five dice and all of them d10's? So wands will be measured in terms of number of one's you can roll before the wand expires. When built, the wand will expire on its 5th one and be worth 100% of full cost. After a single one is rolled, the wand is worth 80% and will expire after 4...

Dungeons & Dragons Lite: Am I the Only One?

My campaign has is the three core books, plus a smattering of the Manual of the Planes and the Monster Manual II, but both of those are DM only. Setting is homebrew with about five pages of text.

What's the Most Asinine Character Idea/Concept You've Dealt With?

Most assine I've played is a tie between a Psychic Housecat in an otherwise typical fantasy game and Janitor in a modern action adventure game. The cat was a pain in the neck because he truly was a cat, and thus couldn't speak or anything. Okay he was a really smart cat with psychic powers...

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

I am looking for bells and whistles, but not changes to the entire encounter structure. I appreciate all the input, but I can only use some of it. For example, the suggestion to have the orcs attack at night to use their darkvision is a good one, and one I can use. The suggestion to turn the...

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

I'm sorry. I appreciate the input. I really do, it's just that your approach is not what I'm looking for. As I said in my first post, I'm looking for an attack by a dozen first-level orcs on a party of 17th level characters. Your approach is good, but does not meet that criteria. Thanks.

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

While this is good if I wanted to run this entire thing as an adventure, I don't. Also, since the point of the encounter is realism, one might ask why there were no burned-out, still smoldering villages when the party was 4th level. Also, the party teleports or windwalks everywhere. They are...

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

Yes, it needs to be a combat encounter against 1st level orcs. No plot device, just request of the players, and verisimilitude. The party is returning to an area of the world where they started their adventuring years. The area is known for its vicious orc raiders. The party was on the...

Can a dozen orcs challenge a 17th level party?

The players requested it. That's why I'm doing it. And thus I will provide it. I agree, it sounds pretty silly, but this isn't a campaign of 17th level characters against 1st level orcs, just one encounter. And I want to do the encounter as well as I can.
