D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

I fail to see how that was out of context. His point was the you used to need a DM that understood the arcane rules, but during that point took a swipe at having all the needed books like there were lots of them. I think that swipe weakened his overall point.

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

I wish people would quit bagging on older version of D&D for having many books. It really weakens whatever case you are making. Having many books isn't a weakness of the game, it is a symptom of the game being around for a while. 3e/3.5/2e can be played with core, and 4e will have its own...

    Two stats per defense!

The monster's I seen all have an extra defense bonus equal to (level/3) rounded down. In the Pit Fiend's case, it is +8. My impression is that this is to offset item bonuses that characters get. If PCs are expected to get (level/3) in item bonuses on attacks, it would make sense for monsters...

Do We Know Enough For Players To Plan?

I know I've seen enough of 4e to plan my next campaign.

How Would You Design Fourth Edition?

Dang it, you stole my line. cannot resist temptation to say "7. Introduce a reptilian race with boobs!"

    Why won't you switch?

Yeah, I'm amazed this thread has been around so long.

What 3rd edition got to with anything?

Agreed. Also many times people point out flaws in 3E to justify greater problems in 4E. For example, "the 3E rogue is role limited, so the 4E can be more so."

    Chess and diagonals

Actually, chess.4e will include the much improved warcastling maneuver.

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

I don't see the similarity between the 4e rogue and the 2e thief, except that I'm not interested in either.

    The Inverse Trek Law?

1e - played memorable long-term campaigns and one-shots that we still talk about to this day 2e - all campaigns died off, quite playing D&D 3e - came back to playing, played memorable long-term campaigns and one-shots that we still talk about to this day 4e - the more I see, the less interested...

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

At this point, I'm wondering about the definition of "non-4E enthusiast."

    Human preserverance racial feat

I think it might be +2 to saves like in the pit fiend example. Saves might be a d20 roll to shrug off a continuing effect. Reroll a single save per encounter might work as well.

Is there anyway to tell how many people have put a person on ignore?

I wish this was true, then I would have no use for the ignore feature at all. Thanks for the replies.

Is there anyway to tell how many people have put a person on ignore?

When I see a post I'd rather not read, I want to put the user into the ignore bin. But then I think, "maybe this is a good poster on a bad day." The only way to figure this out is to search for other posts by the same user, and then figure out if they should be ignored. But what if I could...

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

Clarifications: Specific weapon list - I like the weapon categories of 3e, at least conceptually if not in exact execution. When you introduce a new weapon, say an atlatl for an Aztec themed game, you can just say: This is a simple weapon, or this is a martial weapon. Then all classes follow...

My bad. I was even trying to avoid such language. I've edited the original post.

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

First of all, I'm not a 4e fan. But this this thread isn't for 4e fans. I read the 4e rogue, thinking it might turn out to be really neat and perhaps change my mind a bit. And I was underwhelmed. So I thought I'd start a discussion of what's wrong with the 4e rogue as spoiled. If you are a...
