    Casting from a scroll

I used this tactic a few times as a player, but usually it was more along the lines of realizing that we had no party cleric, and someone had been turned to stone... Overcasting can be powerful, but in all honesty, a party simply can't afford to do it very often. How many 3rd level parties can...

    Wish vs. Miracle

I've always worked wish (since I started DMing in 3.0) this way: You either twist the wording, or you take the xp cost. The old joke of an elf who's lost all his gear wishing for all his **** back, and getting buried in hundreds of years worth of feces, would really annoy a player who just spent...

    Too good to be coincidence?

Some of us don't use said resources, to preserve the mystery of the game. I ran a group of players that had a very hard time defeating a troll, because they kept 'killing' it, and never hit it with any acid or fire, so it would regenerate, then sneak up and attack again. I've also been hit by a...

Why a 20-die cap on falling damage?

Actually, they don't fall less than terminal velocity. They fall at terminal velocity for people who are wearing baggy clothing and spread out arms. ;) Terminal velocity isn't some set number that never changes, it's merely the fastest you can accelerate under a set of conditions before you...

Why are things immune to crits?

Meh. Not everyone casts spells and slays dragons. Some people, y'know, farm. What class should the sheepherders and farmers of the world be? Perhaps my elven court dude wasn't a prime example, but you should still see my point.

    Market price of XP?

IIRC - in 3.5, xp is given out to each person based on the following: The chart value of the CR they defeated for their individual level, divided by the # of party members participating in the challenge, as opposed to the way it was done in 3.0: chart value of the cr defeated for the average...

Why are things immune to crits?

Yet allowing the rules lawyers of the world to justify why everyone you meet is no higher level than 3rd, regardless of age, is something we should all do, right? I find it highly suspect that people can become so immersed into a fantasy world that they can casually ignore that they're...

    Death Attack stacks?

Artemis Entreri is a good example of an assassin in a DnD setting who left the cities (if only temporarily) to go into the woods. He also had something of an alignment drift during the development of his character. Perhaps this hypothetical Dark Stalker/Assassin was an assassin first, then...

D&D 3.x What is the "physical" advantage of being a good aligned character? (3.0e or 3.5e)

As opposed to those good fighter types who use Charisma as a dump score? Or: Babau - Cha 16 Balor - Cha 26 Bebilith - Cha 13 Dretch - Cha 11 (Ok, only average, sorry!) Glabrezu - Cha 20 And I haven't even gotten to the Succubus or the Erinyes... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And some...

    What are traits considered?

A wee bit ambiguous. Seems to indicate that an outsider can only be polymorphed into an outsider, and not anything else. Presumably you meant 'Polymorph can't change anything into an outsider, unless the target is already an outsider'.

Why are things immune to crits?

That was my point. Where does this extra damage actually come from? If from exploiting some sort of knowledge/weakness, why deny criticals/sneak attack/etc., since those also inherently exploit some kind of weakness? I can't seem to see any game balance reason to do so, honestly. I find that...

Why are things immune to crits?

Mkay, I got sidetracked from a link someone sent me, and decided to de-lurk upon reading this wonderful thread. There've been some good points, some bad points, and some random insanity, so I figured this would be a good place for me. I've always wondered something about the critical hit system...

(RANT) (longish) A player wishes to drop

You forgot to mention that one of the ladies left the group because of personal issues with one of the male players, and that the GM did want to include you, but wished to avoid hurt feelings for the ones who were inevitably going to be left out... And yeah, I may seem to be the GM eunuch, but...

    Ultimate RPG room

You know, our gaming room in our house (3 roommates, all 3 of us are gamers) is actually fairly close to that now. The room isn't 10x10 meters, it's more like 15x15 feet (so 5x5 meters, give or take). Our chairs need a little work, but they are the right height (they're being replaced...
