    "Iconics" Throughout D&D History

It is completely utterly inacceptible for this thread to go on to the second page without a single link to the classic D&D PSAs. D&D PHB PSA part 1 - YouTube

    The Dodge Action is Amazing

How do you kill enemies if all you do is dodge? I don't see the point.

Will the real Mike Mearls please stand up?

He did criticize THE BOOK. Being the obscure, ostracized cult D&D gamers are, we should act like any obscure, ostracized, inbreeding cult handles traitors. Organize a sit in in front of his office. Come in LARP gear. Bring your old school modules and play them right in front of his eyes. Bring...

D&D 5E (2014) How WOTC can ensure my support of D&D Next

Of course WotC had the right to do it, it's their license. But just because you have the legal right to punch a longtime business partner in the face, doesn't mean you should. It's ironic that WotC left Paizo no choice than to do PF. Pretty sure they regret it.

D&D 5E (2014) How WOTC can ensure my support of D&D Next

Oh hell they did! The withdrew the license for the Dungeon and Dragon magazines, and they tried to force them to give up support for 3E in exchange for the ability to publish 4E third party material. That backfired horribly, but WotC shot first!

XP? Sorry, I've been living under a rock.

Hey, I was Paragon level!! The audience loves me!! At least now I know what my 13th Age players feel, they don't get any XP either.

In praise of the Healer Theme

Why not split the class and have a Warlord class and a Commander theme? Warlord class has combat maneuvers that rely on teamwork, Commander theme has the initiative bonus, inspiring word and similar utility powers.

I have prepared torches, pitchforks and a flight ticket to WA on that very off-chance.

Dear Wizards of the Coast blog post...

Well, I think I don't. I think you overestimate sales figures for anything in the RPG industry that's not a PHB of the current D&D version. For most indie products, 10.000 is a massive success. But yeah, we'll see in July. If WotC sells enough of reprinted AD&D 1st we may see more reprints. Too...

    Fourth Edition Retro Clone

ChainSawHobbit: I wish you all the best with your efforts. But are you sure you want to call this a retroclone? 4E came out 4 years ago, which hardly makes it "retro", and it doesn't sound like you want to "clone" it either. Which is fine, really, but I think "4E-inspired d20 system", "4E...

Dear Wizards of the Coast blog post...

If that woman was a top-class consultant like she claims, she'd know how to get to the point in the first paragraph. Instead, this crap sounds like drug-induced insane ramblings from the mental ward. FAIL. But okay, let's assume I'm a WotC manager and you want me to publish old modules as pdf...

The playtest reports really demonstrate ...

So why does the adventure start with a list of rooms instead of listing the plot hooks? Why doesn't it provide a village for the PCs to start in and collect rumors? Yes, you can run Caves of Chaos in a sensible, non-boring way. But that requires a DM who knows adventure design, and adds the...

Obective look at WotC's history with D&D

Guys... how about reading some of Ryan Dancey's accounts on the matter? I know the man is highly controversial. But even if you disagree with his analysis and opinions, there is no doubt that he has the best insight into WotC's D&D business (among the people who openly talk about it) That said...

Mental excercise. Converting the d20 system to d6 - entirely-

I don't think it's a big deal - just do it. It probably helps to have a conversion table ready just in case. Probably the only thing you'll note is that it doesn't change the game all that much. Which exact version of d20 do you want to convert? If it happens to be Pathfinder, I'd change the...

The playtest reports really demonstrate ...

Bulls*** Anyway. I had a look at B2, saw a string of boring rooms, gave it a pass, got hold of Caves of Thracia, will run that next. If you run old school, run the pearls, not the turds.

    Rant After Play-Test

Oh gimme a break. 90% of the great 5E rules ideas I read on forums are crap*. If the dev team ignores them, it's a Good Thing. * Sturgeon's Law

Do people in your games actually use "builds"

Builds are kind of a 3E thing. Just levelling to see what happens just doesn't work. The two main factors are prestige class prerequisites and the huge power differences between classes. If you don't plan ahead, you can end up with a sucky character. I've seen it and it's sad. Now, I wish 3E...

"For a more old school experience..."

Because "old school" happens on the DM side and doesn't really depend on what's written on the character sheets.

    Probability question: Advantage and Disadvantage

Because even if you need a 20 to hit, it's still better if you get two tries to do it. However, if you need a 20 to hit an opponent, it's probably better to run.
