In Blood and Relics the allegiances provided in the book have some bonuses and drawbacks, and lots of the advanced/prestige classes and feats in that book have allegiance prerequisites. In my opinion, this adds some interesting depth to the allegiance mechanics. It isn't really a new mechanic...
