Extra Spell Feat from Complete Arcane

For just a comparison, the Arcane Disciple adds a spell of every spell level to your class list (but not necessarily to your known spells as a spontaneous caster). Contemplate that with the Healing domain! It has some minor restrictions attached, but those are flavor restrictions. Using that...

Extra Spell Feat from Complete Arcane

Using the Complete Divine, take Arcane Disciple, with the Summoning Domain spell list. It gains you nothing but the Planar Ally spells, but at least it gains you those.

    Thaumaturgist/Alienist?

I am starting in an arena combat game and want to get my character turned in. Unfortunately, Evil Walmart has not delivered my Complete Arcane yet! My character concept was for wicked summoning goodness. Conjurer, taking Arcane Disciple feat to qualify for Thaumaturgist, followed by Alienist...

3e and the Test of Time

If definition of grognard = what you say, then there are only as many grognards as there will ever be, eventually dying out and becoming extinct. My definition = Having been with the game(s) for more than half your life. Although I guess that makes my 3-year old daughter a grognard!

3e and the Test of Time

I do have to admit that I cannot put myself as much into the D&D fantasy as I could when I was twelve. But then, I also cannot put myself into books, movies, comic books, toys or laying around imagining crazy stuff. It has nothing to do with ruleset. That magical feel that drew me into D&D had...

Can you suggest a bodyguard cohort for this situation?

How about an ogre with a reach weapon?

    Which laptop should I buy?

I vote Apple, because Apple rocks. Don't forget that you will keep that Apple computer longer than you would keep a comparable PC. Some notes. Apples work just fine for gaming, depending on your gaming needs. True, not for the game-junkie as many games are not available for the Mac as soon as...

3e and the Test of Time

Eh. I gave away all my 2e stuff. I had no use for it. That was the game that actually drove me away from gaming for years. With 2e, I kept feeling like the designer were trying to force their idea of flavor down my throat. With 3e, I simply plug the ready-to-go rules into my homebrew world...

    Unfinished Business

At the beginning of the campaign, I print out some sheets. There is Rumors, People We Know, Initiative, Battle Effects and Calendar. I give one out to each player. It is their job to keep track of that for me. It really frees me up, because I tend to play "off-the-cuff" so I will have no idea...

    I am Number47

The story as told to me by my buddy was that when my buddy's dad was fighting in Korea, the locals learned that Number 1 was the "good number". They insisted that there must also be a "bad number", so the GIs told them that it was Number 47. So in pidgin english they would say "Number 47, no...

    I am Number47

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am the user formerly known as Number47. Didn't have access for a while. Forgot my password. No longer have the email account I signed up with before. Thus, the new name. A big hello out there to all of You Bastards!, too.

Collegiate Wizard feat - big boost to diviners?

No books in front of me, but didn't scribing costs get knocked back in 3.5?

    Legal Mystic Theurge build?

I am about to start in an online arena game, so naturally I want a seriously munched-up character. By my reading, it seems that I can build a Sor1/Cleric 3/Mystic Theurge X legally by starting as a Sorceror and taking the Precocious Apprentice feat from Complete Arcane. This is obviously...

    Cleaving after an AoO

Note that this fighter has Cleave and Combat Reflexes and a high Dex. Looked at it through that light, it sounds fine to me. Especially considering how rarely somebody is surrounded by 8 orcs and lives.

    Cleaving after an AoO

Now you're just being silly. Of course the cinematics are different for each situation. Why does Cleave not make sense to you on an AoO, when all those things you mention still wouldn't make sense on your turn? For that matter, it sounds like you want to houserule that plate armor cannot be...

    Cleaving after an AoO

The "bag of puppies" with Cleave is a problem with Whirlwind Attack, which never comes into play with an Attack of Oppportunity. Cinematic: Orc A drinks a potion. Seeing the opportunity, you grab his arm, pull him in front of you and stab through him into Orc B who didn't see it coming.

    Deflect Arrows feat DC

With the Rapid Reload feat, it becomes less of a problem even for crossbowmen, who are the most-quoted as losing out to monks with Deflect Arrows. Side question: Does snatch arrows provide a benefit over deflect arrows that makes it worth a feat?

    Warlock in Play

It seems to me a lot of the things that are complained about the warlock having on 24/7 another character can get through a Permanency spell, although at an XP cost and subject to dispel. Still, if a sorceror, wizard or a character with UMD wanted this ability, all it would take is a couple scrolls.

    Warlock in Play

If the detect magic ability works as the spell, that would be round 1: Detect that there are magical auras in the area; round 2: Determine number and strength of auras; round 3: Determine precise location of auras. Followed by a couple rounds of Dispels and then at least one more round of detect...

"Mageslaying" weapon ability - this looks freaky..

Would a more appropriate wording be "any creature that has the ability to cast spells or use spell-like abilities as a class feature"? That then excludes all monsters that do not have class levels.
