D&D 4E What abilities and paragon paths would you like to see for the 4e ranger?

Just two: Pirate and Ninja. That goes for all other classes, too, btw.

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

The problem with the wizard was, one: he could more or less change his "class" every day by changing his options. The fighter sure couldn't do that. Two: if he wants to expend all his might in one encounter, it could make that encounter trivial starting at mid-levels. Three: without a lot of...

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

Invisibility, I'm sure, will be a "classic illusion" for the wizard.

D&D 4E Rich Baker on Gnomes in 4E

Why, WOTC, why? When I spent so much time homebrewing the perfect gnomes and giving them a place of importance in my campaign? Maybe they'll all turn into tieflings overnight...like the two Darrens.

    Attacks against multiple targets

All that the context of the rest of the paragraph really says is that you should write down your max damage for each weapon/spell/power.

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

Back to encumbrance, I wanted a system that detailed every item as one, one-tenth, or one-hundredth "encumbrance point". The number of encumbrance points would be based directly off your Strength bonus. Thus, you can reference all the relevant bits without looking at a chart in the book...

    Attacks against multiple targets

You'll roll an attack roll against each target, so maximized dice ... They don't always say exactly what they mean. This could mean "You roll an attack roll, which is applied to each target..." or it could mean "You roll attack rolls for every target..."

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

Anyone notice the weight in pounds? If this carries into the PHB, it looks like no revamp of the encumbrance rules at all.

Design & Development: Traps is up!

According to RAW, only someone with Trapsense can find a trap with a DC higher than 20, no matter how high their Spot. So, even in 3.X only a Rogue can find the trap. As for the "fun", what fun is it if you are the trap-finding guy and are beaten to it on a consistent basis by one of your other...

Design & Development: Traps is up!

I always had problems with traps in my game. Sure, traps make sense in the Grand Old King's tomb. You'd expect lots of traps and few monsters. But it always seemed like you had to have a couple traps in order to validate the Rogue's skills. In the secret evil temple, are the acolytes forced to...

New Dragon Article: Ecology of the Fire Archon

I like it, but...do they think Lolth should be an elf now, instead of a spider?

I've reversed my stance on dragonborn and tieflings

Tieflings hang out at Denny's and drink herbal tea all night.

    Multiclassing combos to try?

What you'd wind up with, I think, is a level 30 Wizard with the feats (or maybe talents) Fighter Training, Rogue Training, Cleric Training, etc. etc. He would have access to a huge number of talents, but if he took talents from every class all of his talents would be very low-level. It would...

    R&C: Halflings...

In the real world, it is physically impossible to jump 20 feet straight up. It is physically impossible for a human to punch through steel. Why is it so unbelievable for a halfling with the MAXIMUM possible starting strength of 16 but not for the human with 18?

PCs and Monsters being different - Classes?

The bad news: it seems that Warlocks may not have the curse powers you want. The write-up for the Races and Classes for the Warlock is probably going to be the one furthest from the actual finished class. In the D&D podcast, there was mention that the Warlock was still undergoing significant...

Have "cross-class" skill deliniations finally been removed?

Well, they made it clear that a Wizard can pick up Fighter stuff like weapons and armor. Warlords can pick up Wizard magic. So, I'll assume that there are class skills, but you can pretty easily pick up other skills, too. I wonder if you'll have spend a feat/talent to get just one added skill...

Keep on the Shadowfell=Keep on the Borderlands?

God, I loved Keep on the Borderlands. I barely remember it now. I'm kind of scared to see it again, it may suck as a grownup (like Tron). I guess if don't remember the original I'll never know if this is the same.

    Skill effects turned into abilities

What is this quoted from? I think the quotee is clearly saying that you will use the Tumble skill score in order to avoid AoO, but only if you have X class feature and/or Y feat. In other words, feats and class features open up new uses for skills, like Trapfinding opens up new uses for Search.

    One setting per year?

A setting a year implies, to me, that each setting will get a book, maybe an adventure path and then no more. TSR was selling supplements on a myriad number of settings all at the same time. The WOTC method of 2008 sell only Setting X, 2009 sell only Setting Y seems much more likely to keep...

    One setting per year?

Didn't WOTC sell the rights for Ravenloft? How about a reimagining of SpellJammer?
