    Scratching Fantasy Itch besides D&D

Well, there's Warhammer FRPG and Exalted. I played them but D&D still is the best for my fantasy itch..

    Best OD&D system?

Without the Player's Option and other splats, 2nd ed seems fine to me with just the 3 core books..

Is there an "Age" factor to choice of editions?

I am 23 and prefer older editions compared to 3.5/4th ed...

Explain to me what OSRIC is

Any plans to adopt a more 'marketable' name other than calling it OSRIC? I know that the OSRIC name has its own reputation now but it does feel like a barebone of a game system rather than a complete game with fluff included. That's one of the reason I have preference of Labyrinth Lord over...

    My D&D Edition Wish

This is the onlye way of preservation of old editions, besides secondary market. If only the pdfs were better present and doesnt have poor scan issues then it would be perfect. Then again, I wouldnt mind anniversay reprints of classic editions.

The Best D&D edition for me.

Bravo! Moldvay's version is one of the hallmarks of the D&D family. All the ability checks that you stated depends on you to implement them as the DM. I too am running that version and have 3 players and tons of retainers. Hehe. Don't forget to get the Cook's Expert and you have a complete...

LL is basically classic D&D under a diff name. Hope that answers your question.

Forked Thread: The Best D&D edition for me.

Its pure old school style on the table for me. Nothing nicer than old hand drawn map and clunky hand-written notes. If I wanted to incorporate technology into games, I rather play online neverwinter nights. If techology helps you game better then its all up to you. I once did it, with a laptop...

The Best D&D edition for me.

For those fellas who say 4th ed can be played without a single combat, don't you guys feel that the combat powers are wasted? Reading the rulebook that has a major portion of it dedicated to combat gives a certain mentality to the game. Anyway to the OP, based on the replies, you should be...

The Best D&D edition for me.

Haha, everyone championing their game of choice. Just start with 4th ed or those clone games philotomy mentioned. Why I recommend the clones is because they are free and easily available (you still have to print though), hence it caters to your friends who are still new and casual. Once they...

    Forked Thread: gimme some narration

Different system does affect playstyle according to my experience. I heard alot of people who say that roleplaying is exclusive to the game system though. Play an exact medieval fantasy adventure using 3.5 and the storyteller system. See how your players act during combat. I think playstyles...

    Forked Thread: gimme some narration

We try to play it RAW as possible and thats when it splits. There are ppl who just take the mechanics of 4th ed and invent their own fluff. Its good, but for a game thats just 4 months old, its like buying a new car and immediately giving it a fresh coat of paint without actually getting used to...

The Best D&D edition for me.

I started with AD&D 2nd ed at 14.. it was hard to understand back then.. Your best bet is BECM. Get the pdf of the box sets or Labyrinth Lord/BFRPG and start playing. I strongly recommend Labyrinth Lord. Its free and easy to understand. Learn the rules then start out with a simple dungeon...

    Forked Thread: gimme some narration

When my players play 4th ed, they do the same thing and act like mmorpg/Final Fantasy PCs, but whne we play BECM or even 3.5, they will get bored of saying the routinal attack/spell actions that they tend to add on sum spice to it ie narrate their attacks/spells. In 4th ed, they feel its hard...

Within the three core books collectively, what's the % of 4E Flavor Text?

No offence but the books look like nicely-layouted SRDs to me with abit of fluff.

    sword and sorcery genre rpg

Thanks for the replies. I am leaning towards the old TSR Conan Box Set clones as ZeFRS, but a little confused about the magic system. Anyone care to explain? Btw, is Runequest crunchy?

    sword and sorcery genre rpg

hi guys, was wondering what game system are available to run a sword and sorcery genre game. Most fantasy rpgs cater to high fantasy with demihumans and all. I know there is d20 conan, but I am trying to stay away from that system.

Curious about something: would you play in an AD&D campaign?

Hell. :):):):)ing. Yeah. I love old school systems... B/X D&D is my game of choic now but no probs playing AD&D, though prefer 2nd Ed dur to streamlining and more organized rules. Not really sure whats the huge diff between the two editions.

    gimme back my narration

I am in the same boat as the original poster here. Yeah, sure we can reflavour or completely disregard the fluff and just take the mechanics but the fact that its written in print gives a certain mentality that it has to be followed. At least when its played exactly by the book. Are you guys...
