D&D 5E (2014) Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft Table of Contents

Overall, I'm excited to get this. I hate to see that places like Verbrek are gone (I loved werewolf land), but what IS in the book looks good. What I'd like to see now is a MAP!

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Van Richten's Guide To Ravenloft showing up in the wild!

I was curious to see if they kept Sithicus or not. I'm not really surprised or disappointed that they didn't. To me, without Soth, there wasn't much point to it. Nice to see The Carnival. Also glad to see Jander Sunstar in the book :)

D&D General When a character dies and a new one arrives

I apologize if this has been posted before, but I wanted to see how DM's handle a player bringing in a new character after one dies. I've always kept my players at the same level just for simplicity, so a new character came in at the same level as everyone else. How do you handle it?

D&D General The story your friends still talk about...

Lol, this reminds me of the very first game I DM'ed. It was a published Dragonlance adventure called "Knight's Sword." The adventure started as planned, but when the party camped on the first night, the ranger wanted to go hunting. I thought to 15-year old self, "Um, that's not in the...

I'm glad it helped you get through.

D&D General How has gaming impacted your life?

I've had a similar experience. While my core group has been together for a long time, we are happy to bring in new people. I like running games at conventions (as does another friend in my group). I like that it helps keep me in touch with younger people, especially when we meet someone who...

D&D General How has gaming impacted your life?

Same for me. When I was a senior in college, I FINALLY had the chance to choose a couple of classes that I could take that weren't part of my degree (chemistry). One of them that I chose was Medieval History. It was a senior-level history class that majors had to take and was taught by an...

D&D General The story your friends still talk about...

Gaming is about telling stories. What story do your friends still talk about the most? For me, it's a boss encounter with a lich that had been antagonizing the party for a long time. They had finally entered his lair and made it to his throne room only to find it empty. An obvious magic...

D&D General How has gaming impacted your life?

Beyond the immediate joy of playing a game with friends, how has gaming impacted your life? For example, I have met some wonderful people through gaming. I have been fortunate enough to have been playing with the same core group of people for over 25 years. We met in college through our...

    D&D 5E (2014) How would you improve Dragon+, WotC's Online Magazine?

I haven't read all the responses, so I apologize if this has been brought up already... I think WotC could really benefit from looking at Pathfinder in this regard. The monthly release of a Pathfinder Companion (or any of their other monthly releases) was a really great idea and has had some...

D&D General The mentality of being a DM

I should clarify that I don't have a hard rule against letting the dice kill a player, but I don't let it happen often, at least with my usual group of players. After playing with them for 25 years, I know what their play style is, what they enjoy, and what frustrates them. For them, getting...

D&D General The mentality of being a DM

I just wanted to post and ask how different DM's view the "job" of being a Dungeon Master. I occasionally teach a class about game mastering, and I always find it interesting to see how different people think of it. I've been running games for 28 years. Personally, I view myself as a "Warden...

New (Unofficial) Zakhara campaign guide available 04/13/2021

I can understand the confusion. Al-Qadim is the name of the campaign setting, but not really a location of any sort. Zakhara is the name of the continent the setting takes place in, also referred to as The Land of Fate (also the name of the original boxed set). So yes, this is VERY related :)

D&D 3.x Why does the 3E Fiendish Codex: Hordes of the Abyss go for so much?

The secondary market price on lots of older RPG books have been going up. Many 3E books are really expensive now, especially stuff that had a small print run (try to find a copy of Monster Manual V...). It's not just D&D either. I was trying to pick up some of the older Battletech books...

D&D 3.x Why does the 3E Fiendish Codex: Hordes of the Abyss go for so much?

My experience with the stickers Half Price Books uses has been that they are easily removed and leave no residue at all.

D&D General What Obscure/Lesser-Known Book Series Got You Into D&D?

Add me to the list of people who started with the Chronicles of Prydain. That being said, my first introduction to fantasy worlds was reruns of The Beastmaster on HBO :giggle:

D&D General Need advice: Forgotten Realms novels

Back in the old days (3rd edition), I kept pretty well informed about the Realms. I got away from it when 4th edition came along. Now, I'm trying to catch up on what all has happened, what classic NPC's are alive (or dead), and so on. What novels would you recommend I read to catch up on...
