Challenge: Take a classic fairy tale, add a twist, make it adventure-ready

A young peasant maiden finds a poster announcing a grand ball held by the handsome and single local ruler, and she idly wishes aloud that she wants to go. An efreeti hears her wish, and grants it. He casts an illusion of splendid clothing on her, and even tells her when the spell will expire...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Online MMORPG Announced

Yeah, open PvP in an MMO is unfortunate. I was seriously contemplating pledging this Kickstarter, but now my interest has just plummeted to zero. The most PvP I want in an MMO is single-occurrence and opt-in. -blarg

Inventing names is detrimental to my immersion

For my Kingmaker game, I've established that names from the northern part of the world tend to be swedish, czech, russian, or any other north/east european. So I've got: Baron Karl von Hammerschmidt Marquise Natasha Lenova Sir Reginald Orlovsky Branthwaite of Armel Privates Bjorn and Ulfgar I...

Pathfinder 1E Kingmaker props: 3D Stag Lord's Fort

I've built the Stag Lord's Fort in 3D using WotC's Dungeon Tiles and Terraclips: The whole thing is just two very solid pieces - the top floor is entirely removable, revealing the ground floor. One pack of Terraclips was enough to build all that. I'm debating picking up a second set so I can...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Thanks for the update, Sagiro! I like seeing the way you present significant obstacles to your players with no apparent solution.

Pathfinder 1E Rules Question: Pathfinder diviner wizard asleep during an ambush

One of my players is playing a diviner. The party was ambushed while resting at night by some wolves who succeeded on their Stealth checks. The diviner was asleep when the attack began. The player insisted that his Forewarned special ability would wake him up so he could take an action during...

Big changes a'coming! Merging the D&D forums

If a forum is busy, I'll happily look at the first two or three pages of threads. It's not even a little onerous. *shrug* ps - will we be able to bookmark filters?

I accidentally found a nifty way to do exploration of a map

Pictures, eh? The poster is about 18" by 24". On the shot showing the whole map, you can see the flaking I originally noticed in the center on the right side of the image. I'll touch it up with some more paint after we move into our new apartment this weekend. Edit: ps - I fingerpainted it...

I accidentally found a nifty way to do exploration of a map

Last night I had the very first game of the Kingmaker campaign I'm DMing. Exploration is the major theme of the first book in particular, and I accidentally found a cool way to pull that off. Step 1) I bought the Kingmaker map folio. It contains four large poster maps of the region the PCs...

    House rule brainstorming: grappling sucks

I like having the AoO. It means you generally don't try to grapple the guy with a sword out who is ready to defend himself. Instead, you try to grapple the guy who is disadvantaged in some way and no longer able to take a free swing at you. All of that makes for some interesting tactical...

    House rule brainstorming: grappling sucks

Here's my current thinking for a simplified grapple system. This is for Pathfinder, so all grapple checks are CMB vs CMD. Feedback is most welcome! -blarg Step 1 - Make a touch attack to grab. Provokes an AoO from your target. Step 2 - Make a grapple check to secure the grappling, with a...

Gamescience dice are very much worth it.

I bought a bunch of precision dice because we play in my living room, which doesn't have a table. Our dice are rolled on a hardcover book, more often than not. The sharp edges of the precision dice make them stop rolling sooner, so I get fewer dice on the floor. -blarg

Pathfinder 1E If you want High Dex melee -and- a choice in weapons, you're asking for WAY to much

Strangely enough, it appears you can still dervish dance and TWF with an unarmed strike or armor spikes. You'd also get to use dex for those attacks and damage. Natural attacks would benefit similarly.

    House rule brainstorming: grappling sucks

These are very helpful ideas - thank you! I'm starting to figure out the specific components of grappling that cause me headaches. 1) The distinction between grapple attacker and defender. 2) The limited but extensive list of actions you can take while grappling. Exacerbated by 1) above...

    House rule brainstorming: grappling sucks

I haaaaate grappling in 3.X, and I'm about to start DMing a new PF campaign. It's far too complex, and I'd like to come up with some ideas to house rule it into the simplicity range of bull rush or overrun. I'd love to hear some ideas! -blarg
