Just want to say that I anxiously await a working version of this, looks to have a lot of potential :D

Does moving a spell effect provoke opportunity attacks?

You articulated in better terms with your second paragraph what my point was -- understanding the RAW of it can as often as not lead to a better understanding of the RAI of it, so to simply shut down a material discussion because the RAW is what's in contest is silly. And in the case of your...

    Forced Movement

Well, there's the other side of the rub -- I don't give saves when they get moved into a trap square, or any other mechanism that doesn't automatically cause damage without some other event occurring first. If the trap has to attack first, then they've already got a chance at avoiding the...

    Forced Movement

While we're on the subject, what's the general take on forced movement into damaging zones/walls? They aren't hindering terrain by definition, so RAW they don't get to save...but I find that a bit cheesy since most creatures can see the 3x3 spinning vortex of flame or whatever and thus give them...

Does moving a spell effect provoke opportunity attacks?

It's worth noting that these kind of fuzzy areas are why I always warn players "You're going to provoke an OA" when they take action, even if it's the obvious choice or the threatening creature(s) are marked.

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

Let's not forget as well that most defenders can still apply their mark again on the next turn; it's not like the entire job is rendered useless by this mechanism, it just forces defenders to rethink action economy and makes the rest of the team play cautiously so they don't get caught in a rampage.

    Critique my D&D tool

Select the "Print cards" option -- once they're rendered on the next page, they're each a .png image file that you can do with as you please.

Dear bloody god: Calystrx (Threats to Nentir Vale Preview)

I've long considered giving solos the ability to ignore marks, even if temporarily. Also considering giving elites similar action recovery traits at paragon (although likely without the mark removal)...this just reaffirms the idea in my mind.

Does moving a spell effect provoke opportunity attacks?

Looking back on some of the recent threads regarding rule interpretations, there isn't a single one where RAW and RAI aren't compared fairly. Interpreting the RAW of it is every bit as important as the RAI, and to simply wave off the conversation with a comment that is equivalent to an offhanded...

Does moving a spell effect provoke opportunity attacks?

What are these threads for if not to assist in the adjudication process? Answering every question with a "Let the DM decide" doesn't accomplish anything and would make discussion as a whole remarkably monochromatic.

    Divine Challenge and Sanction

No, it doesn't. Challenge and Sanction are different marks.

    LFR quick question

CCG indicates that the only allowed content from the Monster Manual is the Orc race, so no, it would not be allowed.

Help me make a 12th level leader (or defender)

The fact that you have two controllers means damage output will be low, so a defender who can mitigate and/or heal damage is your best bet; anything else will slog out and potentially leave someone dead. In a defenderless party, you need enough strikers to alpha strike the monsters to stay ahead...

Does moving a spell effect provoke opportunity attacks?

Interesting, I find the opposite when I apply some abstraction. Bigby's Icy Grasp involves actually making the entire attack again; the Wizard is focusing his attention on the hand and the effect it invokes to attempt to grab another person. This would provoke. Feast of Destruction's sustaining...

Dungeon 170: Monument of the Ancients

If he wanted to defend himself against trolls (if that's even what you can call it), then the appropriate response is no response at all. By responding to a troll you acknowledge their presence and validate their opinion as a peer -- the better thing to do is just ignore them outright. Most...

Does moving a spell effect provoke opportunity attacks?

Sustain never provokes, it would be too easy to lock those effects out just by moving in threatening range. You want to lock down a sustain minor, then you daze the person.

Mordenkainens Magnificent Emporium saved by last minute adventurers?

As a point of order because I take pride in it, it's worth noting that "Fourthcore" as a term in the 4e community typically means something other than "pre-essentials", and it refers to the initiative to create scenarios that are challenging to the player, and not just the PC. I don't have the...

    Heroes of the Feywild Speculation

Sorry, I got a little soapboxy there. :-S Only my first bit about flipping the bird was really directed at your post, the rest was an open statement about the overall Essentials irrationality.

I don't know how to run lurkers

Sure! You could also try to work in some "anti-tactics" based on what the players did during the encounter, as though the quasit learned from what he saw.
