Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Boycott Yes, and that is a VERY good point you make. My for-profit company is private, owned by a non-profit organization. I prefer to work for privately held companies. After reading all of the material concerning boycott, I now agree strongly that it is not the right thing...

Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

Those who say the boycott won't work to improve the situation are probably right. Regardless, I won't buy anything more from Hasbro/WOTC, only on principle. I would not condemn anybody that would buy something that was of quality. I feel bad for the creative talent and I know how...

Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

Re: Re: Boycott I do not believe that every corporation in America treats their employees as a number. Good management recognizes talent and keeps their strong employees to ensure the future of their products. If such talented, hard working people are getting dumped, then that means a...

Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

Re: Re: Boycott That is not true all of the time. I now work for a company where that is not true. It is a smaller company all things considered, but we have been around for nearly 100 years. I've survived two rounds of layoffs after 9-11, but those that remained did so because they worked...

Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

The question is not can those guys try and make it on their own. Even if they do well I'd be surprised if they earned anything near their original salary. For most, I'd wager, its time for a new career while freelancing on the side. I could be wrong. That does not mitigate the fact that...

Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

"Job security as a whole is a thing of the past. People can click to it, or we can embrace the inevitable advent of economic flexibility. There will be bad decisions made (this is one) but on the whole very few jobs will be secure as the economy involves." I work for the old music publishing...

Is Now the Time to Send WOTC a Real Message?

Boycott In this case, I will not support a company that treats its employees like cattle. These are not ordinary people getting tossed away like wheat chaff... Its damn hard enough making a living from creative work, and a company like Wizards was like one final bastion of such folk. Layoffs...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

autobiography I remember asking Gary if he was ever going to write an autobiography and he responded, "when they are selling slushies in hell!". :P Why the change of heart?:

    20th level?

How many of you have characters that reached 20th level within a year playing 4 hours each week or so? I have run many campaigns using 2nd Edition rules, but no character ever got much above 13th level after a years worth of game play. With 3rd edition my players were 5th level after about 5...

    boring combat

He disagrees!? He must be punished!!! I will bracket forms of "to be" to soften the implied authority here. :P The dodge roll adds an psychological "edge" to the combat. It gives players a sense of control over their character's fate. It {is} a very simple mechanic, not a rule with a...

    boring combat

Introduce "dodge rolls". Make all attacks opposed rolls. It puts some power (or so it may seem) into the player's hands to control if they are hit or not. That tends to get them more involved.

    Jamis Buck NPC generator

Jamis is responsible for the macro I used to generate all of the random tables in the upcoming World Builder's Guide from Troll Lord games (the book I co-authored with Gygax). He is a swell guy! :D ~Dan Cross

Why is the Monster Manual a Core Rulebook?

The MM is useful, but is it really assumed by most players that the DM has no right to make up varient monsters? I'd say that was quite unreasonable of the players. In fact, I'd tell those players to bugger off. :)

    Fantasy gods, religion, and philosophy

The battle line is often drawn between the particularists and the universalists in their approaches to religion and myth (see Robert Segal's Joseph Campbell: An Introduction). I prefer to think of Campbell as a wonderful poetic thinker, rather than dispenser of "facts". He is better considered...

    Are gamers all computer geeks?

Not even honorary guru? Hmmm...perhaps I should have used the word "expert". I like the quote, "An expert is simply one that knows more than you". That keeps the whole business of expertise vague enough, at least for politicians. :p

    Are gamers all computer geeks?

Hey, let me have my fun. I started with the baseline assumption that the people here can use a computer. I was interested to know how many of the gamers on this site were working in the computer field in a general sense. You're right that it says less about "gamers" in general...

    Are gamers all computer geeks?

I agree with you, but it was an "impulse poll" on my part. I was just curious. The person who mentioned that those on this board are more likely to be web savvy was correct, but I take that into account when looking at the results. So many another poll is in order...

    Are gamers all computer geeks?

I guess that would put you in the "no, but I'm a guru category". I would have made more answer categories, but this gives me enough of an idea. :)

The results of this poll are surprising to me thus far, but then again it's only 8 people. Interesing...:)
