Why do you hate meta-gaming? (And what does it mean to you?)

I recognise & try to respect that you have specific tastes in your gaming. I believe these to be niche as I can't recall anyone else I've played with having them however this is somewhat self selecting. I suppose that I mostly take exception to being told that a term I have been using for 35+...

Why do you hate meta-gaming? (And what does it mean to you?)

It is not "the whole point" though, at least not for me or pretty much anyone in my regular play groups or of anyone overtly in more casual games I have played. It is merely part of the exercise which is playing a game that involves acting in the role of a fictional character. Definitions are...

Why do you hate meta-gaming? (And what does it mean to you?)

I've been playing since well before the late 80s & I am alarmed to find this out. The point you overlook is that PRGs are games that feature role-playing they are not simply exercises in role-playing I guess they might be if you never interact with anything on a mechanical level & the GM...

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

It was called "advice" in the RAW from on high days of 3e too. Just saying'

D&D 5E (2014) When to use Shove and Grapple

Because multi attack is an action of its own type not an attack action. I am sure it was originally ruled thus but per Ruin Explorer it has been reversed which is sensible. I should not have mentioned it as it was always a counter intuitive dumb rules lawyery ruling.

D&D 5E (2014) 6-8 Encounter Adventuring Day as the Key to Combat as Sport/War in 5e

I like the idea & I definitely like combat as sport. I agree it is used by people who seem to be saying "my make believe toon risks his imaginary life every time I play while your just want to have fun". Referring to your earlier post a lot of the problems come from noone really knowing what...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters in Pandemonium

Doesn't Pandemonium drive you mad? You could try "stray monsters that you would not normally fight in weird alliances" for some of your encounters. An insane Unicorn makes me smile for some reason.

D&D 5E (2014) When to use Shove and Grapple

That would be sensible - it was originally the other way via twitter or something.

D&D 5E (2014) When to use Shove and Grapple

Also multi-attack does not allow strictly shoves & grapples though most DMs would probably waive that.

D&D 5E (2014) I'm Not Sure We Need a Warlord - Please put down that rotten egg.

I ask them who would like another attack & they all beg my for my support (or healing). Seriously I as a player ask them I don't tell them. I don't think we are a bunch of method actors inhabiting the skins of our characters. More than a bard casting Heroism? Necessary != should not be...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm Not Sure We Need a Warlord - Please put down that rotten egg.

It is an issue you seem to take particular exception to, I can't recall anyone else having it. I like agency for my PC it is why I like balanced power levels including point buy stats, broadly balanced class power, even levels for new characters. I am anti fudging, anti "GM story telling" & so...

D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Mastery bonus action attack - does it have reach?

Also magic - not that any ******* would find a magic polearm in MY campaign

D&D 5E (2014) I'm Not Sure We Need a Warlord - Please put down that rotten egg.

Here's a 5e "warlord" for 12 levels above which I am totally (as opposed to mostly) unqualified to design. It's tactical - not sure where I would put subclass splits or whether there should be options at some levels instead of the fixed picks. In any case this would be a build that fell out from...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm Not Sure We Need a Warlord - Please put down that rotten egg.

The very best games have the mechanical effects tie in with what is happening in the fiction. What made Runequest2 such a great game for me back in 1980 was the fact it was that it was so deeply embedded in Glorantha with its battle magic & rune magic being unique to that world. It lost a lot...

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

Well put. I didn't mean to contradict you but "excessive" railroading would be where the dm is determining outcomes not just putting the PCs into situations. I too am not averse to the scene setting / dm pc plot side of railroading. As you say you have to buy into DM running adventure paths...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Fast Hands" vs "Assassinate"

    c) Seems fine. Most of rogue is in the base class not the subclasses & neither fast hands nor assassinate are really dominant abilities.

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

For me a lot of these points are quite specific and not deal breakers in themselves though an accumulation of them might be Like these. While I have no issues with either of them (I DMed magic item shops well exchanges) I can't see why advantage on flanking would get you so exercised that you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Isn't using a weapon just an upgrade to your at will attack though, at the cost of pushing DEX? (and melee being a bit dangerous but archery not especially so) It seems to me they have the same choice a a normal wizard - at will attacks or turn it on with spells. They could have been designed...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

What you seem to be saying is that the traditional Bladesinger should not have been a Wizard subclass, as that way it is doomed to have 9th level spells. So assuming they did not want to introduce a full class gish half caster fighter, maybe it's intended that you multiclass to get the feel of...
