D&D 5E (2014) What class fills the tank role best? Fighter, Barbarian, Cleric or Paladin?

It's always existed in D&D as the guys who stand at the front & get hit. You always had to use positioning & terrain to cover the lack of mechanical tools but you were still tanking. :) You need survivability & the ability to get in the way. Barbarians & Paladins seem most survivable...

    D&D 5E (2014) Yes, Inspiration

We use re-rolls. At home its to encourage its use & distinguish it & to power it up a bit but still no-one ever remembers to use it. In the AL I think its because the DMs don't know the rules & probably need it to offset the general level of incompetence there. I guess its not a real reroll...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rogue Stealth in Battle

I accidentally answered this in reply to your earlier post. I would say the situation you describe here means the dice do have a bigger impact with 2 rolls the results are less normative. "It doesn't, much" but again it's more pronounced with more actors.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rogue Stealth in Battle

It works fine for one on one like that. If you have a large enough number of individuals & roll for them all them one of the seekers will get a 20 & one of the hiders will get a 1 and it's very different compared to just rolling one side (the PCs or the active party). Passive being based on 10...

D&D 5E (2014) CRs and what is going on?

This is the game where plate armour makes you harder to hit remember. I like your way of thinking though not that it is any less meta-gamey. And DR 15 is probably too severe - the most you can do with a 2h sword is 17 without it being magical. I would not introduce DR like that as it's not...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rogue Stealth in Battle

So you think they included the hide action (& gave rogues the ability to use it as a bonus action) as some sort of perverse joke? I recommend ignoring this advice & letting expert sneaks sneak. If you roll every contest as opposed rolls the dice take over from the abilities to too large an...

D&D 5E (2014) What to spend your loot on?

    I am horrified no-one has mentioned Ale & Whores - it's traditonal.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to Break 5E

Noone here is suggesting any of that and at the risk of putting words into Zardnaar mouthh e is highlighting issues to be aware of as a DM, presumably to preempt them in some way.

    D&D 5E (2014) Scrolls in 5e; loving this!

Wand of Magic missles was any class in 2e. That's a nod to history not a revolutionary new feature.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to Break 5E

If their aim is to be disruptive maybe. If they just thought they had come up with a cool combo - or simply a feat they liked the look of not so much. Otherwise where does it stop? Spells you don't like (conjuring is stupid) Races you don't think should be in the Realms? The metagame rules that...

    D&D 5E (2014) How to Break 5E

Throwing encounters at people rather then have them arise organically for either narrative or simulation reasons sounds like you are trying to hit a quota. Non combat encounters don't count as they don't drain resources in the same way (& you can easily have lots of these I agree) I find it...

    D&D 5E (2014) How to Break 5E

All I really remember about 1e which I stopped with in 1984 was that I did not like it much. I do not agree with this assessment. It relies "on adequate" threat meaning something like will drain a few resources rather than "provide an exciting/entertaining encounter". On top of this 6-8...

    D&D 5E (2014) How to Break 5E

3 You are playing in the Adventurers' league. IMO your O is wrong. I believe they moved feats & MCing to optional as a sop to the 1e simplifiers but they are intended & designed to be used as evidenced by the fact they are not optional in AL play. AL DMs are given latitude to change the...

    D&D 5E (2014) How to Break 5E

Same here. It was like that in 3e too. I moaned so much about the crappy encounters in some dungeon (A demon jail by Monte Cook) that the DM just rounded up all the monsters & put them in the same place. 4e sorted this out at the cost of everything being a big set piece and being really...

D&D 5E (2014) breaking the healing rules with goodberries

Or practically useless if you have not tracked rations in 30 years. But then I find "exploration" tedious. I don't think it really needs fixing & even the stupid interaction just makes it very good rather then broken as Mistwell showed with prayer of healing. Plus limiting it would stop a...

D&D 5E (2014) breaking the healing rules with goodberries

I am not sure it is so powerful. It seems it is only a big deal if you are fighting a lot of lesser enemies, take a bunch of damage up front then manage to kill them over several rounds yourself/with your summons. It's only once per turn & that class feature it terrible if it does not work like...

D&D 5E (2014) breaking the healing rules with goodberries

Conjuring swarms of low level things is pretty much broken, at least broken enough for me to stop DMing.

D&D 5E (2014) breaking the healing rules with goodberries

Really in the edition of DMs empowerment I have to use 6/9 encounter per day or the game breaks? That's an awful lot outside of a huge dungeon. (Ido not like huge dungeons they do not feature in the sortof stories i like to read watch or play in. ) Almost all the 5e I have played has been...
