RPG Evolution - The AI DM: The Trouble with Art

Not many people have which was their point. "Affected by" not wiped out. There are considerably less farriers around now. Same with the other professions mentioned.

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

I'm not saying they represent a particular real world group of people, I'm saying real world people can see parallels with the experiences of fantasy races. Thus find representation.

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Well drow were also called out at being subject to racism, tieflings too, animosity between elves and dwarves use to be a thing, the problem is they keep sanitizing everything so yes they end up being the only ones, but only because they have already white washed everything else.

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Because it unfortunately reflects reality, thus it gives representation to those real world groups. Allow it to apply to every race is diminishes the real world experiences of people that are actually born to two different heritages. The prejudice happens because of coming from two heritages...

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

By changing things from how they have been for years they are effectively indicating that is wrong way to play. As if it was right there would be no need to change it.

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

That's not the problem that's the feature. Look at the #7 post in this thread @doctorbadwolf shows that this sense of being part of both cultures, but at the same time not part of either is a real lived experience for lots of people of mixed heritage and something they can identify with, with...

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

Yeah I find that hard to believe when they are also saying things like... "We also haven't been thrilled for years with anything that begins with "half." The half" construction is inherently racist. They'll still be in D&D Beyond and the 2014 PHB if you want to play them." Basically means they...

Erm Mr Brightside has three arms? Don't remember that in the lyrics. Could you do A twenty three year old female British police officer of Armenian descent, in uniform on Blackpool pier. Photorealistic

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

They aren't. It was the second part of the post (after all the emojis) that that, that part was responding to, about using PCs backstory in planning your campaign, which is unrelated to Microscope as you don't have PCs with existing backstories in that.

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

My point is you aren't responsible for a particular character. You might play the King of Blogsville one minute and a nameless marauding orc the next, and then someone else might play the King of Blogsville later. In Kingdom you have your own character, that only you play, although you can also...

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

Yeah but there aren't any player characters in that game, it is very untraditional, you don't play a character, time hops around all over the place, it is much more building a setting or a story than playing an roleplaying game as most of us would understand it. It is certainly worth it as an...

    Players: Guiding Morals in Playing

I would imagine 100 Gnolls is an instant absolutist killer, so the problem will fix itself.

    Players: Guiding Morals in Playing

Make the game fun for everyone, even the DM. However remember fun can mean different things, mental torment can be fun if done right. Characters are disposable. Character death is an opportunity to try something new. Characters themselves don't think they are disposable. Don't let them know it...

    GMs: Guiding Morals in GMing

Weirdly I played Heart (the follow up to Spire) at a convention recently and the GM, had a notebook full of stuff prepped for the four hour slot. The characters had a mission to do, and they were certain challenges on the Delve we needed to over come all were prepped. The whole game seemed...

Commentary thread for that “Describe your game in five words” thread.

Expanding on the two post I made "Saved the world from Yog-Sothoth." and "They let Yog-Sothoth be summoned" Two different RPG parties going through the same scenario, first was my home group, second was running the same scenario at a DevaCon in Chester. The scenario is A Quest for Power...

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

How the character is viewed by his peers within the order, relationship with the city mayor who was one of the main patrons for the party, that sort of stuff. Not everything needs a mechanical difference to be part of the story.

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

Just an roleplaying one, as in them taking offense at it, threats to expel me from the town/order, that sort of stuff. Doesn't need mechanics.
