    Your best live action Superman?

Christopher Reeve, without a doubt. I love Henry Cavill in the role, and wish he had gotten his own sequel and/or a director who liked the character.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

That's a lot of settings to be hopping around in, but the inclusion of Greyhawk has me excited. I don't have any real connection to Greyhawk, but the fact that they're using it suggests they'll use it more in the future. I'm curious to see what they do with it, to make it distinct.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Reveals The Confirmed Release Dates of 2024's D&D Slate

Should I take the release date of the DMG being right before my birthday as a sign? If so, as a sign of what?

So, what is your Favorite "Villain" race these days?

It occurs to me that I haven't used villain races for decades. I think the last time was when I was running a MERP game and there were Tolkien orcs to kill without remorse*. * I know that during or after writing LOTR, Tolkien struggled with whether orcs were inherently evil and therefore ripe...

    Grading the Rolemaster/Spacemaster System

I would love a chance to play RM2E or MERP again, face-to-face, for more than a one-shot at a con.

    Grading the Rolemaster/Spacemaster System

We played a lot of RM and SM back when they were new, and well into the 90s. For me, MERP was the best version, paring things down nicely and providing some of the best maps any rpg has ever had. The skill-specific success tables was the one level of crunch (in the vast world of RM crunch)...

    Do TTRPGs Need to "Modernize?"

I am highly opposed to losing limited resources (spell slots, for instance) on things that wind up doing nothing. I guess I just don't get the point. If you want to emulate fiction where a character dramatically fails, there's usually reasons for that failure set up earlier, and dramatic payoff...

D&D 5E (2024) Size, Carrying Capacity, Strength, Athletics, Mobility

What if your Strength was your Size? As in (using 5E terms) Tiny creatures default to having a Strength of 1, Small have 2, Medium have 3, etc. Adjust granularity to suit the genre/subgenre, or tone. Creatures that are unusual strong for their size might have a Strength that's their size +1.

    D&D 5E (2024) Speculation Welcome: What's Next for D&D?

It will be very interesting to see what kind of release schedule WOTC goes with for this 2024 edition, once the core books are out, and how that balances with digital releases.

So, what is your Favorite "Villain" race these days?

This is definitely where I'm at, too. I focus on individual villains or rulers, and ruling classes that lord it over their subjects. Their subjects might be assumed to be baddies, too, but they could range from frothing fanatic, blindly obedient types, all the way to resistance fighters and...

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

Played the bejeebus out of this back when it was the current edition. I couldn't list the differences between it and other editions, other than it was before the addition of things like skills, feats, subclasses - and it could be that there were things like that in AD&D and I'm just not remembering.

    D&D 5E (2024) Speculation Welcome: What's Next for D&D?

You know who makes my favorite 5E adventures? Arcane Library (now of Shadowdark fame). Their modules are written and organized in an incredibly clear and easy-to-use fashion.

D&D 5E (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

I like that the UA Weapon Mastery properties for weapons are something you can theoretically use every time you attack.

    Who’s your best Batman?

Obviously, this is the correct answer, but my heart is split between my love for Adam West's sublime brilliance and Will Arnett's masterstroke Lego Batman. Here's another thing, for me: if the history of Batman movies has proven anything, it's that anyone can play Batman. The trick is making...

D&D 5E (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

Another thing I'd love to change, in the interest of streamlining things: get rid of proficiency, and get rid of kits, tools, etc. Just make it all Skills, as in "are you skilled at Survival?", "are you skilled with a lyre". You eliminate some terminology and multiple categories of things. Boom.

D&D 5E (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

Matching spell levels to character levels, i.e. you get 3rd level spells when you're 3rd level. They won't do this because of tradition. I can see it happening somewhere down the line, like for a someday maybe, imaginary 6th edition. And yes: making the ability score and the modifier into one...

D&D 5E (2024) Size, Carrying Capacity, Strength, Athletics, Mobility

As has been pointed out elsewhere (and maybe here, 97 comments in), one of the reasons players often don't bother with or care to track encumbrance is that there's no incentive to do so. The only possible outcome is a problem for your character, and thereby for the group they're traveling and...
