Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

Would detailed criticism of the articles be seen by those who like the articles as just as nitpicky as those who say the articles are nitpicky? Would we then enter a recursive nitpicking loop? Would this be unusual? ;)

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

This, 1000% I read less than half of the first article and realized it was going to be a waste of time. I'm sure there's valid points in there, but just because there's water in mud doesn't mean I'm going to drink the mud if there's perfectly fine water (more balanced analyses) to be drunk.

It bothered me, but not enough to ruin anything. Like Aragorn in FOTR swinging a sword that clearly hits nobody yet 3 orcs fall down.

Regarding comparisons of the budget of the LOTR movies vs of RoP: 1. I don't know if the figures used have been adjusted for inflation. 2. It's worth mentioning that one of the reasons those movies gone greenlit at all was because Jackson's budget proposal was relatively low for 3 tentpole...

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

I try to remind myself that opinion and art criticism are two very different things. The latter requires an understanding of the media in question, craft/technique, context, history, etc. Opinions use "I like" and "I don't like" (or if online: "X is great" or "X is crap)", which are phrases that...

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

It would be interesting to compare the number of storylines in RoP with those in GoT, and how the two shows approach balancing them. I can't think of any other shows that have so many characters so far apart and with such (relatively) disconnected storylines.

Mostly I'm just envious of the time this person seems to have on their hands.

Can't argue with that. Conceptually it doesn't bother me, but I think the shows execution of the idea was clumsy. This is niggling, but certain Maiar were recruited as the Istari (your phrasing makes it sound like all the Maiar were). This timing doesn't bother me - it feels like a difference...

His music is one of my favorite things about the show. His character and location themes are unbelievably good, IMHO.

Yes and no - they have access to all of LOTR, but are mostly using just the Appendices. They have also negotiated use of non-LOTR material here and there.

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

I wonder if the Mithril thing was an attempt to show in a more clear-cut way one of the reasons the rings are as powerful as they are. Technically, Tolkien never said there weren't Istari in Middle-earth in the 2nd Age... ;) Why wouldn't there be Barrow Wights lots of places? What do you not...

Or the movies, shows, etc are a version of the stories told by X character to Y audience in location Z in year QQQQ of the Nth Age.

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

I'm feeling kind of the opposite: I mostly really liked the 1st season, and I'm finding this season a little lifeless. Can someone tell me how the elves didn't know an army was massing on the other side of the hill across the river?

Maybe Adar just thinks it's the real deal? Or is selling snake oil?

    Space: 1999 Coming From Modiphius

In much the same way that 1950s sci-fi movies have a distinctive vibe, 1970s scifi does, too. You have to get yourself in the mindset to appreciate it either, but it helps if you grew up with that kind of thing. People point to Star Wars as the turning point, but there's a lot there that still...

Dude, that was a year ago! I've slept at least 100 times since then! I already commented on this: yeah, they're there, but he barely interacts with them, and then suddenly when it's basically too late for him they're worried. Like I said, he has no one. I can't help you there. It's just not...

Trailer Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* | Teaser Trailer | Only In Theaters May 2025

Not impressed by the trailer itself, but this will probably be throughly entertaining.

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

That all makes sense, it's just seems too pointed, and like many little things in this show has no explanation or is never referenced. Does he have no one in his life because he's obsessed with his work? We can infer and even assume that, but it would have been nice to have a character - maybe...

Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

My understanding is that at least among the earlier episodes this season, some content was moved from one episode to another, after the filming was complete. This might be the reason many episodes have two directors listed. As much as I'm enjoying the show, I think it has both too many...
