Spoilers Rings of Power is back!

I was thinking about this idea, that to be one of The Faithful of Numenor - to follow the Valar - is to be nonviolent. That seems to be what the writers are telling us. This didn't make any sense to me until I thought about Earendil having to beseech the Valar to get involved in defeating...

D&D 5E (2024) Buffing Int, Wis, and Cha (Mostly Int and Cha)

One idea I had was to give a number of skill specialties equal to each ability score's modifier. So, if you're Wisdom modifier was +3, you would have 3 specialties in Wisdom-based skills you are proficient in. Same for all the ability's skills. I was thinking of using something like the...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

I finally had a chance to flip through some of the PHB. Generally I really like the font size, layout, color scheme - that kind of thing. I was struck by the Backgrounds illustrations, in that they chew up an awful lot of space. Maybe it's the formatting, with a page-wide 1/4-page illo, then a...

    Shadowdark Shadowdark looks so good!

    There's...only one book.

Project Sigil All the Deets on Project Sigil the D&D 3D Virtual Tabletop

I mean, I can see where they are? And if there's no grid displayed then the bases just look nonsensical to me. But one's mileage may vary.

Project Sigil All the Deets on Project Sigil the D&D 3D Virtual Tabletop

This looks pretty snazzy, but man, the last thing I want is (vaguely) realistic 3D environments with no grid and then...all the 3D characters and monsters on minis stands? Go one way or the other.

Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk #312 - Shadowdark with Kelsey Dionne

On the episode (and possibly elsewhere) Kelsey said she was working on a Cursed Scrolls Kickstarter, aiming for March 2025 IIRC. Cursed Scrolls is the Shadowdark 'zine.

What are you reading in 2024?

Tried to read Let Me In, and although I love the writing it is just too dark for me. You get inside the heads of very messed up, abused, disturbed people. Eegh.

Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk #312 - Shadowdark with Kelsey Dionne

Excited to listen to this on my Sunday morning walk, as usual. I've never met Kelsey, but I love her work and she seems like an amazing person.

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

I've read very little Expanded Universe stuff, but I always imagined the Jedi as initially being like hedge knights. Very slowly over time they became an organization, which got increasing tied to other large organizations, and then we get to the Prequel era where they are very clearly not what...

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

Honestly I'd rather have another season of The Acolyte than Ahsoka - unless the next season of Ahsoka has lots more Hayden and Arianna Greenblatt, and/or they let Rosario Dawson be something other than stoic.

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

Thank you for articulating something that's been bothering me but hadn't gelled in my brain until now. I can see how the weapon properties system they're introducing has appeal - it gives a few easy-to-understand options that makes some weapons more interesting depending on what you're trying...

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

I consulted several best-of lists of Rebels episodes, and a list of the Ahsoka eps of Rebels, and wound up watching probably...a 3rd of Rebels? I did this and rewatched several later Clone Wars eps I hadn't seen. That was my Ahsoka prep! Rebels just didn't grab me.

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

I found Ahsoka pretty boring, except for the Anakin flashback stuff. But then, I had no investment in the Rebels characters or situations.

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

Yeah, if there's one thing that rubbed me the wrong way it was getting us to like a bunch of those characters and then killing them to show how badass the villain was. It was almost traumatic.

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

I mostly really enjoyed this series. I'm not super tied to canon or expanded universe stuff, so for me it's mostly about doing interesting stuff with Star Wars-y things, keeping my interest, surprising me - that kind of thing. I liked the cast, too. Did not see the switcheroo coming until it was...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

I could definitely go back to the 2014 version, and you're right that it would need to be beefed up somehow if my group segues to 2024 D&D. I like Tale of the Valiant's "Martial Action" feature for fighters, and Level Up's non-combat class features might make up some of the difference, too.
