D&D 5E (2014) Is the Forgotten Realms experiencing a new Golden Age now that its NOT the default 5e setting anymore?

To be fair, at this point in the history of the FR setting, throwing out everything about FR other than a name in a sidebar and inserting some unrelated lore is a longstanding tradition.

D&D 5E (2014) Finally getting a full size map Faerun

Fair point. If we're taking political boundaries into consideration, almost no maps of the Realms match one another, since the borders of countries regularly change. (Off the top of my head, the borders of Amn, Damara, Mulhorand, Tethyr, Unther, and Vaasa all changed during the middle of various...

D&D 5E (2014) Finally getting a full size map Faerun

I purchased a pdf copy of the Forgotten Realms Atlas so I could compare it to the 5e Sword Coast Map for a project I'm working on. If you superimpose the Sword Coast regions of both maps in an image editor, you'll find they're essentially the same map. Those two identical maps are also very...

Until I read your post, the NFT marketplace made no sense to me. Now I understand what it's really for.

    Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

Accurate observation. It's like the dance club in every vampire action movie: a bunch of people in vaguely Goth or Emo black leather outfits dancing to a Rob-Zombie-inspired playlist in a darkish room with a few flashing lights while an imperious club owner looks down on the dance floor from an...

Not quite what I was thinking when I said "time travel movie," but it seems like it could be a fair period piece.

    Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

Incidentally, I think it would be hilarious if there was a time travel movie that filmed each era visited by its protagonist in the dated style of sci-fi movies from that era.

D&D 5E (2024) Weapon masteries should really be linked to weapon properties, not to specific weapons!

That's a fair characterization of what I'm saying. I don't want the weapon mastery rules thrown out or rebuilt from scratch. I just wish they were rearranged a bit to make their presentation more consistent with other rules that do similar things.

D&D 5E (2024) Weapon masteries should really be linked to weapon properties, not to specific weapons!

I would rather see every weapon have something inherent to the weapon that makes it unique. If I have to acquire a class feature to unlock a supposed weapon property, it's not a property of the weapon. It's a property of the class feature. Moving the text of the class feature to a footnote on...

D&D 5E (2024) Weapon masteries should really be linked to weapon properties, not to specific weapons!

I have to agree with the OP and several other folks in this thread. Just make "Weapon Mastery" a self-contained class feature whose text says you get to do X with every weapon that falls into category Y. Like the Crossbow Expert feat, which works just fine without having to assign a "crossbow...

Speaking of streaming: I'm convinced streaming media was better when Netflix was effectively a monopoly. Once we got competing platforms, the streaming experience turned into "Cable + DVR" v. 2.0. Unpopular opinion?

D&D General "I have Played in or Run a Campaign Set in the Forgotten Realms" (a poll)

I agree it's not useful to say, "I'm running in the FR," since the setting covers so much ground. It's probably better to say, "I'm running in the FR, using sources X, Y, and Z." Information in those sources is established fact and everything else as hearsay. That lets you use convenient bits of...

What Is Your Favorite Campaign Setting?

The only setting canon that matters is the setting canon in place immediately before the PCs start interacting with the world. After that, the only canon that matters is the canon established by the PCs. I would change the identity of the important world-shaking NPC in the PC canon timeline. I...

What Is Your Favorite Campaign Setting?

For fantasy D&D, my top pick would probably be the Forgotten Realms, assuming: 1) the 3e Campaign Setting book is a reasonably-accurate but out-of-date description of the world; 2) earlier Realms products are in-character historical documents with unreliable narrators; and 3) later Realms...

What would you spend $5,000 on?

If all my other expenses were covered? I'd probably spend $4500 on art for a vanity-published RPG product and $500 promoting said beautifully-illustrated RPG product.

Probably my all-time favorite short story. (Not a hot take. It won a well-deserved Hugo Award back on 2004.)

Also, orcs were "goblin kin" in the Forgotten Realms setting at least as late as 2012.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Inclusivity Language Alterations In Core Rules

There are people in this thread arguing that changing a few words in a game rulebook constitutes an Orwellian erasure of history. I can only imagine what they would say about expunging entire genealogical records.
