Worlds of Design: Water, Water, Everywhere

And so, my fourth horseman of the apocalypse, Natural Disaster, rides up to say, "hey, War, Disease, Famine! Wait for me!"

GMing: What If We Say "Yes" To Everything?

This reads to me as, "the GM says 'roll' to everything." That's significantly different than the Original Premise.

D&D Movie/TV Hasbro Getting Out Of The Movie Business

Had the stars aligned, it wouldn't have been the second. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1733125/ Bring earplugs. I do. If movies were any less loud, you'd hear whining kids, cellphone conversations, chomping of dine-in meals, and probably flatulence (hopefully not too close). I'm glad they're...

Amazing Adventures: An Interview with Jason Vey

Those are manageably short NPCs! For those of us unfamiliar with C&C*, do the NPCs follow the same rules that PCs do, or is there some other guidance on how to draw them up? * "If you know Castles & Crusades, you’ll be up and running with AA in ten seconds flat."

D&D 5E (2024) Two Spells, One Turn Confusion Never Dies

You might want to take another look at this (or correct me). "Prepared" now means "known," so there's no longer such thing as having one fireball prepared. If you have a spell prepared and the right spell slot(s), you can cast it.

Amazing Adventures: An Interview with Jason Vey

Is the forthcoming monster book related to Amazing Adventures? That didn't seem clear from the context. But, if JV abhors statting up NPCs . . . how are DIY GMs going to feel about it? It sounds like fodder for a future design goal.

D&D 5E (2024) Two Spells, One Turn Confusion Never Dies

Whose assumption is this, and why is it required? The PCs could end a battle in a draw, flee, or avoid the battle in the first place. Careful use of resources is granted. Why don't NPCs (or monsters, in 6e) have a care in the world? And what's so literal about it? I think the "blow every...

Planning a 3-Night RPG (and hiking) getaway (recommendations needed!)

Have you tried Modos RPG yet? It rolls contests like D&D, uses aspects like Fate, and the Dread tower would be an awesome modification to its extended conflict rules. Anyway, it would be especially useful on a limited-time weekend because you can layer on its modules based on how in-depth the...

D&D General Session Zero and Nobody Chose a Spellcaster

The tavern's resident bard might be looking for a change of pace. Wrap him up in leather, chain him, and bring him along for kicks. Literally.

D&D General What makes a good Adventure

What's the difference between this and several adventures that happen to have a few characters and/or locations in common? I don't quite see how these elements fall into place. They describe how I write sessions (not adventures) as a GM, but they're too nebulous to make an adventure -...

D&D 5E (2024) Two Spells, One Turn Confusion Never Dies

It's pretty clear. One spell slot per turn. But, it's not, because you don't expend spell slots - you expend spells. A spell "fits" into a slot, so I have to wonder what happens to the spell when the slot is "expended." It's like making eggs by putting the carton in the pan. Anyway, the...

Hasbro Confirms New Unannounced Dungeons & Dragons Video Game in Development

There's another unconfirmed rumor out there: Jeremy Irons will be voicing and motion capturing the Big Bad.

What Property Do You Still Want to See Get a TTRPG Adaptation

A list or link for these would be nice. I have no idea what's "currently published." The world clearly needs a Castlevania DRPG. I'm picturing Lords of Shadow, with lots of awesome channeled magic and "morningstar" (spiked chain) tricks. Dante's Inferno has very similar weapon antics (PS3)...

    D&D 5E (2024) Equipment for Sale Guideline

D&D 5E (2024) Using AI for Your Home Game

Let's note that the human "footprint" here is for all human activity, not just writing. I think the logical conclusion for this is that ChatGPT should just replace all humans. That would minimize carbon emissions. "Or maybe you shouldn't bring me every piece of trash you happen to pick up."

    D&D 5E (2024) Equipment for Sale Guideline

Wait . . . now I see why they gave all the classes more stuff to do! If you're trying to do realism with 6e, then I commend your bravery.

D&D General Group Skill Checks (Too Many Cooks)

There's a fundamental flaw in your group-task resolution when success is more affected by whether the group size is odd or even instead of whether the group is large or small. "Everyone knows that scouting parties should have two or four members. Three is right out." Focus on why the group is...

Worlds of Design: The Revenge of the Kludge

Cool ideas, but for the sake of harmony/non-kludginess, I wanted to basically remove a rule that called for quasi-algebraic work. My solution to the "uselessness" of attribute scores was to make them have direct effect on damage tolerance. Your metaphysical score is 15? Well, then you can...

    We’re On BlueSky

Yeah, it smells close. I thought you referring to the typical discourse on BlueSky, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
