D&D General What is appropriate Ranger Magic

I'm not the biggest fan of ranger with spells, but these are all pretty interesting. Many of them could be shared with druids or wizard, but most could also be unique to ranger and that'd be fine.

D&D 5E (2014) One shot for new dm

How familiar are you with the game? Because 2 players is a pretty small group and could require having another character played by the DM or have the players play more than one character, both cases being pretty hard to do for newish players (and a bunch of veterans to, if we're being honnest)...

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

Wasn't like Frazurblu a demon lord imprisoned under Castle Greyhawk? Demonic tiefling could be a noticeable presence in Greyhawk simply by exposition to a corrupting demon cyst. Same with drow tieflings in Erelei Cinlu, with Lolth (and general demonic powers) worship is pretty common. As...

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

    There's a wide gap between a tiefling and a cambion. Just like a Dragonborn isn't a half-dragon and a dhampir isn't a vampire spawn.

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

I don't think anybody is saying some casters are simpler than martial. The question asked is: given the casters are complex, which of them is the simplest to play when compared to other casters. The (lack of) complexity of non- casters has no relevance here. Of course (sadly), a non-caster is...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

Spell selection and prep isn't that much of a task. A wizard who pick only the worst spells on its list is still pretty powerful and/or useful. The list of "sure value" spells in 5e is pretty long. It's pretty hard in 5e to create a spellcaster that can't contribute to anything in any given...

D&D 5E (2014) Give me ideas for a really simple boost to martial characters [2014]

Replace weapon Mastery for lvl3: + scaling proficiency die to damage with selected weapons. At 6th level, the damage of the mastered weapons ignore any resistance. lvl9: Quick Attack; Sacrifice Advantage to make one more attack. lvl 15: Fighter Saves; gain proficiency with all saves, a roll...

D&D 5E (2024) How will the 2024 rules do with monster resistances to P/B/S

The problem with the resistance mitigate is that classes with cantrips.can generally skip the gimmick. Weapon-based classes are stuck waiting for in-game solutions to minigame while the others have a solution button to press on their sheet from lvl 1. And the opposite isn't true: how many...

D&D General It's Magic, You Know

I've played a 5e game where every caster had the warlock chassis and my short rest were 10 minutes (max 2 per LR). Good times and pretty close to and AEDU system. Maybe just take the Battlemaster maneuvers and add them to the fighter and rogue.

D&D 5E (2014) Give me ideas for a really simple boost to martial characters [2014]

I like to take the features of the UA brute from a few years ago and add them to the fighter chassis. They are powerful and simple.

The 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide is Chris Perkins' Last Book as Product Lead

Yeah, a real team player and someone who really took to heart the idea on "easy on-boarding" for new players. Far from those arrogant designers (and fan) who think you somehow gotta deserve to play their RPG!

D&D 5E (2024) How will the 2024 rules do with monster resistances to P/B/S

Can't disagree here. Unless you create a new thing like Force (magical) or Force (slashing) etc

D&D 5E (2024) How will the 2024 rules do with monster resistances to P/B/S

Meh, magic weapons will probably deal force damage or another elemental damage type, much like the beastmaster's beast attack or monk unarmed strikes or the high CR monsters that used to have the old "attack count as magical yadayada" in their attacks description. In 2024, Force =...

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

I've just got a new book called Oriental Adventures! You tell me this isn't a book to make accurate historic campaigns?! Now..who should I call for a refund?

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

But but but but...where will I put my very innovative country of samurai, ninja and geisha fighting lung dragons overs the great stone wall separating them from the fur-wearing barbaric nomad riders coming from the steppes to flee the troops of the Kingdom of 1000 Pagodas coming from the...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

Id like to have a "cantrip fighter" who knows only cantrips and rituals, with some kind of feature to impove cantrips damage at higher level. Imagine a mix of artillerist and war magic wizard, with armor and shield and only at-will magical abilities.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

I think its pretty clear that the dragonborns are the descendants of specimens from the First World grown in lab by the previous owner of the crash starship in the Barrier Peak. They emerged from their vats a century ago and created a strange culture based around the worship of Bahamut...

D&D 5E (2024) How fun are Champion Fighters now?

2014 champion is the most played class at my table. It's not super powerful, but it's simple and reliable. The 2024 version looks even better.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

I prefer the notion that if there once was dwarf lands, it's now far in the past and they are now integral part of any kingdom's culture. Like, a Dwarf from the Hold of the Sea-Princes will have more have more similarities with an human living there than with a Dwarf from Pomarj.

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Invites You To Explore the World of Greyhawk

The Vale and the City of Fallcrest itself started in the DMG, indeed. The other landmarks and regions on the vale come from the adventures (Trolls Fen, Harkenwold, Stonewall, Intermittent, Thunderhead etc) or scrounged from the fluff piece of various Paragon Paths or even Powers. Then they were...
