the tablet war is heating up

Sometimes. Zune and their whole media experience tried to build off iPad and Apple store and failed to the point of death.

Remember when Dungeon Magazine was all about adventures?

It's an excellent point that WoTC needs to embrace the digital formats that are coming out and are popular. If we buy any of the rational of making the Character Builder an online tool, the big one we were told was universal use, then yes, WoTC must embrace these new formats and even provide...

    $12 PDF sale at Drivethrurpg...

I spent way more moeny on this than I should have, inclduing buying some stuff I have in hardcopy but with my tablet, I find myself actually reading PDFs more. Good stuff.

Uniting All Players: Dragon and Dungeon magazines online viewing?

One of the things I've speculated about in the past, is that eventually, WoTC will make the magazine something that can only be viewed online. This technology apparently exist as there are several comic companies that already do it. But what if, in their desire to bring the edition to all...

the tablet war is heating up

I was more interested in the 13" tablet. While I find my Toshiba is great for some things, I actually think it's a 'little' too small for PDFs and drawing on. And yeah, a Windows tablet does sound sweet, but expensive. Apps have paved the way for a lot of inexpensive software that works.

How do you feel about the future of D&D after the official announcements?

Neutral. I think Monte does some fantastic work. I have Dark Space from when it came out from Iron Crown. I have Ptlous when it was first done. I think Mearls does some fantastic work. I have a lot of his d20 work from various publishers. Neither of them controls WoTC. I liked the face that...

    I can't keep doing it

Many people felt this way about Essentials when the DM tried to prune back things and the DDI Character Builder gave them an option to.

    D&D 5E (2014) Art direction and 5th edition

WoTC has a few options here. I keep hearing a lot of talking about 'uniting' the player base. But, as we can see here, art alone, is something that has very different meanings to different people. Looking at the OSR, we see a lot of nods and winks to the older editions and how they went about...

the tablet war is heating up

Wiat, did you say compilations of Invicible? Almost every time I look at that service it's all individual issues and it's cheaper to buy the hardcover collectons that bring 'em 12 at a time.

    [January] What are you reading?

The Folding Knife by J. J. Parker. Not that far in but he seems like a good writer thus far.

D&D 5E (2014) What 5th edition needs to achieve IMO

But what about 2nd edition? THe one that started it all? Who can forget the Complete Book of Necromancers, Ninajs and... gasp, before it was a core class, the Barbarian?

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo and 5e

Uneless WoTC is outsourcing and PAYING Paizo, I see no reason why they would stop developing Pathfinder. Can I see some conversions of some of their books? Yes. Do I see it happening? No. Even prior to the 4e restrictive license, many companies found that relying too heavily on WoTC, as with...

D&D 5E (2014) What 5th edition needs to achieve IMO

WoTC talks about uniting the fans of the brand behind "one ring" so to speak. Won't happen. While 3rd edition had a lot of the elements that made D&D what its known for, 4th ed went a completely different path. Not necessarily a bad one in terms of game design, but rituals, spells, and magic...

the tablet war is heating up

I think memory on this devices will continue to creep up. On RPG.net one of the posters had a link to a 256 memory card. And another was talking about 8 gig hard drives. (or is that tetra? I get 'em confused at that size.)

What WotC hasnt done yet: Old Settings

Eh? I'm not as big a consumer of the fiction lines as I used to be, but both dragonborn and tiefllings were no where to be found in the Blades of the Moonsea, which is a 4e timeline book. Do they make a big impact somewhere else? I recall, that at the time of launch, with a brand new set of...

What WotC hasnt done yet: Old Settings

My comment was meant to be a little tongue in cheeck as someone posted to the missing gnome that they were in the PHB2 when it felt to me, reading the comment that the PHB2 was replying to, that the intent of the question was why wasn't the gnome in the PHB1 to begin with as a core race. The...

What WotC hasnt done yet: Old Settings

And alas, this is another problem with the restrictive lisence. In the past, game settings very pretty plentiful. If you couldn't get an official version of your setting, you could probably get something close. And WoTC had licensed out Gamma World, Ravenloft, Dragonlance and... Blackmoor I...

    Your Current Game?

Seem to be a lot of play by posts. More so than I recall in past threads. THe internets allowing more gaming is always a good thing.
