the tablet war is heating up

I dig the Toshiba THrive. I've used MicroSD, USB and otherbits with it. The video taking thing is cool. THe screen seems fine to me but I'm definately not an expert. Reading PDFs is farily straightforward and I can see why PDF would hold tremendous appeal in this format. I've read several ebooks...

    [November] What are you reading?

How are those books? The price is right on 'em. I just finished Pendragon, a 'historical' based view in many ways of King Arthur, and now I'm reading the Doom of Camelot, several short stories discussing why and how the land feel. Good stuff.

    Cheap sources?

While not quite what you're looking for, Fiery Dragon has paper tokens specific to Keep on the Shadow Feel for free that match the monsters and characters provided in that adventure.

    [November] What are you reading?

Haunting of Dragons Cliff by Phil Athan and Mel Odom. For $2.99 it was worth the read. Read it on my Toshiba Tablet on the way to downtown and back. An interesting experience but the Tablet is a ltitle too big so I might get an actual Kindle for such trips in the future.

    Frustration with KotSF and pacing

I feel weird saying this but.... I've played in the game and run it on seperate occassions. No 'real' problems with either instance. When I played, the GM ran it like we were members of the Black Company and we were very mercenary. He brought the town to life, we pushed for money from him to...

    Rule of Three: 7/11

It almost seems like he's saying, "We were going to do an effects based game, but hey, the Hero system already exists!" Seriously, going forward with the current methodology, when you look at it and know its problematic, is not going to do the game any favors. The problem is rules bloat ladies...

Pathfinder 1E Is Paizo the new Palladium? (It isn't!)

Don't forget embracing the OGL and their PDF options, or their subscription print/PDF model. Many people vocally point out their love of Paizo has amost as much to do with the OGL as it does anything else and others, still looking for WoTC to provide it, latch onto the PDF material.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo Announces More Details about Minis Line

It's always nice to just pick up and miniature and play. I love painting minis but time is something you can never have enough of. In addition, some of these sculpts look great and would make some great repaints that we would never have without them existing in the first place. And then there...

Pathfinder 1E Is Paizo the new Palladium? (It isn't!)

We'll have to check again in ten years, and then in twenty. Some of the main differences are in how things are run and how they appear to the masses to be run. Palladium often does not appear to be run very well while Paizo does. In addition, while there may be some similiar criticism of both...

the tablet war is heating up

And I see Groupon has the 16 gb Toshiba Thrive for $299. Pretty good deal considering the various inputs you can use on it and that you can replace your own battery on it.

Who played or ran Night Below?

I was running the Night Below and another thing, I think it might have been Temple of Elemental Evil mixed in with a Hero's Tale and other bits with different groups that had links to each other. Night Below went very well until about Assault on the City of the Glass Pool or something like...

10-18-2011 Legends and Lore - Preserving the Past

A short article. And I'm not knocking Monte here but... WoTC goal is to capitalize on the past of the game. There's nothing wrong with that intent in my opinion, but it often takes the form of trying to augment buying patterns of fans of the game by stripining out material that many would...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it looks to me like you're agreeing that have a 17 written down doesnt' mean anything and it's only the bonus that matters.

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

What gets more use in the game? The score or the bonus? Combat and skill checks use the bonus. There's probably a few tiny bits that use the actual stat but for those people who like encumberment, I don't think WoTC is going to keep it around just for that.

New "In The Works" is up

It's cool for people who want to play such a character to have the option but man, I'd kill for a Gunslinger style class from WoTC. Hell, gun rules in general. Ah well, at least I get to scratch that particular itch with Pathfinder and with previous editions ala Iron Kingdoms of Swashbuckling...

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

But to get those new players, won't they want the game to be simplier? What's your strength? 17. Mine's 16. Any difference? Nope. What's your strength? 3. Mine's 3 as well. Simplicity works. Artificial holding? Not so much. Maybe WoTC really does car about the 3-18 legacy but... anyone...

If I could ask WotC for a few reasonable things...

Tablets do indeed provide a different reading experience than laptops or desktops and are worth while for those looking into reading PDFs. I love my Toshiba Tablet.

    D&D 5E (2014) Weighing in on 5e

But... 4e defaults to point buy and it was a fairly popular method in 3e too. It seems you rally against unbalanced factors on one hand but encourage random, which can lead to unbalanced factors, on another.
