    LOS question

I'm talking about identifying that one specific orc in a group of orcs. For me it runs (if no PC has seen the orc wizard cast a spell): DM: you see a group of 9 orcs, one of which you know is a wizard. Player: I cast MM on the orc wizard. DM: Which one is the orc wizard? PC: Probably the one...

Hierophant Spell-Like Ability: is the divine focus requirement still there?

DM's call. I would say that the Hierophant would not need a holy symbol based on the general not needing components, but a gut feeling for style says he does need one (however I could easily be persuaded otherwise on this). This would allow him to summon monsters when bound and gagged (although...

    Wall of Fire Horizontally?

While "wall" and "curtain" imply vertical, there isn't anything in the description saying it cannot be horizontal (and it could rest on the wall tops if required I guess). A glance through the other wall spells indicate that they are all created vertically (again by no means a stated...

    Quarterstaff?

For me only if you are a monk. In the monk description of Unarmed Strike specifically states that even if your hands are full (like wielding a bow) you can strike with other parts of your body. Because the the feat "Improved Unarmed Strike" does not mention this or reference the monk's ability...

    LOS question

For LoS my only take on the MM casting is maybe needing a SPOT check to determine if you can correctly identify the orc wizard or some part of the body. If the orc wizard hadn't cast yet, it is hard to distinguish for some reason. More than likely the average combat wouldn't require it though.

D&D 3.x Need advice on 3.5 cleric build

Not strictly true. Turn Undead: The usefulness of this ability is determined by two things How often undead are fought. What other uses you can make of this ability. (outside of PHB/Core) There are a number of feats in the Complete books and others that allow you to use TU to power various...

    Dragons CR.

There is a timing issue here K. Sean's quote is early in the 3.0 lifecycle, rather than the 3.5 dragon book (at least that is how I remember the timing). The may have changed the CRs by then for whatever reason.

Camoaign control - Guilds and Monopolies

Well the game isn't set up to be too realistic regarding economies because that isn't really the focus of the game (I believe that "A Magical Medieval Society" extrapolates the use of magic, as does Eberron somewhat). I agree it is more of a general outline rather than a firm set of rules, but I...

D&D 3.x 3.5 use of fly spell questions

Why is it out of scope of the discussion? Isn't how you deal with a flying paly mount during combat something to be considered (even if it ends up: no different to when not in combat)? I also feel that the conversation has expanded slightly from the original post. We have, bolded So while I...

    Effects of grease.

I wouldn't go past the -4 for attacking while prone for the area effecting grease if an attack roll is needed (although I do wonder how much hard it is to point the finger from the ground compared to standing up). No Concentration required other than the vigourous motion for falling as mentioned...

    Dragons CR.

I've heard at 3rd to ???th hand that the intention was to make Dragons the big bads of their CR and that they were rated a couple of points down from what they should actually be. While not all same CR critters are actually the same threat (some can be way off), looking at what they can do to...

    Trap Making Prestige?

If you haven't already killed all those clever trap makers maybe you can go and hire some to build traps for you? ;)

D&D 3.x 3.5 use of fly spell questions

There probably are feats for combat flying or riding a flying horse (I don't know of any personally), but they might provide bonii or change something (allow you to take 10 on ride chacks for instance) rather than allowing you to fight on a flying mount. Personally I imagine that they would...

    D&D 3.x How important is AC? (3.5)

A number of people here do say that after a certain point miss chances become more important than AC. This is because AC does not scale as well as Attack bonus as you gain levels. The better the AC the more likely the 2nd, 3rd, etc.... attacks will miss. At high levels the 1st attack is likely...

Looking for some clarification on a feat...

There is nothing in the PHB about familiars changing to the alignment of their master. Again all of them are animals (so Neutral). I don't see Arcane Heirophant saying anything about companion familiar alignment.

Looking for some clarification on a feat...

The feat should really have scaling in it's description if it does (which it does not). It would seem that the ravage does not scale. Since ravages are supernatural in nature and act LIKE poison but are not considered to be poison I'm not sure there can be an argument for such scaling under...

    animal companion feats

From the PHB pg35: A 1st-level druid’s companion is completely typical for its kind except as noted in the sidebar on page 36. Other than being treated as a magical beast wrt creature type v effects the sidebar notes the extras a companion gets for being a companion rather than changes. The...

    Smite ontop of Smite? o_O

Smite Evil (Su): a paladin may attempt to smite evil with one normal melee attack. Smite Taint (Su): Once per day, a Shintao monk of 2nd level or higher may attempt to smite a Shadowlands opponent with one unarmed attack. Kai Smite (Ex): free action to activate (via a shout) Smiting Evil is...
