D&D 5E (2014) Request for Warlock feature suggestions!

Seals? Hmm. That reminds me of a Runethane (from the 3e era Arcana Evolved rules) 4Eified class I am working on. In developing it, I came up with different forms runes could take, most of them synonyms of course: Marks (which I renamed Signs because Marks are already a mechanic in 4E) for...

D&D 5E (2014) Request for Warlock feature suggestions!

One of the strength of spellcasting is that you have a large list of powers to select one. So maybe the feature should also be designed to have several options, but themed differently than invocations? But of course that also means you need to come up with more abilities. I like the idea of...

Spoilers Lower Decks Season 05x10 "The New Next Generation"

That was a very enjoyable finale and overall a very good season. But it's a shame it's over! I am gonna miss these characters. They obviously put the seeds for two shows, one centered on Starbase 80 and one on the Cerritos with the cast now as "upper decks" characters, to to speak. Not sure...

Witcher 4 Trailer, A Few Musings

That might be the biggest challenge, crafting new characters that we'll be as fond off as the ones we know from the past. That said, in Cyberpunk they pulled that off pretty well. The difference really is that more players have already expectations and favorites and might need some more...

Witcher 4 Trailer, A Few Musings

The earliest rumors or hints about Witcher 4 suggested it might make Ciri the main character, but I have also heard that they might give us a self-made Witcher. However, if you look at the Witcher and Cyberpunk game by CD Projekt Red, it seems they prefer a reasonably well-defined protagonist...

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

Maybe muscular neutrality is motivated by the idea that we exist in a world where both evil and good exist, in the world, and each of us. If one side were to win, everything we knew about the world would be different. The universe might not need both good and evil, but it is a part of our...

Fun ways to do a "warlike" people [+]

In Farscape, the Peacekeepers are a "war-like race". They are off-shoot humans, transplanted from Earth even apparently by another alien species that needed warriors to help the peace they brokered. When that species kinda disappeared, the Peacekeepers remained behind, and without a real...

Fun ways to do a "warlike" people [+]

Maybe a warrior culture with a very formalized, ritualized form of combat usually. They know "might makes right". if you have the better argument but the other guy can beat you up, your argument means nothing. So they created a ruleset of duels and formal fighting for conflicts. (Kinda like the...

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

It also is kinda like it works in real life, at least from an atheist perspective - religions only have power if they have worshippers that follow their traditions. (Though obviously, for an atheist, there is just the religion, no deity, and no "supernatural" powers. Just what the community of...

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

I remember reading the old testament and there were several passages where other entites were labeled as god. Of course, that was the Lutherian German translation, or at least based on it. So the exact translation in different versions of the bible might differ. But if someone wanted to, there...

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

I don't think that follows at all. Real world people have people respecting and admiring them even though they are all mortal. Why would it be so different for gods, who are actually really, really hard to kill and have enormous powers? And adventurers that can kill gods aren't that common. On...

D&D 5E (2024) Alternate GOO Warlock Patron Ideas

Aliens from Outer Space, if that's a thing that works in your setting? Maybe some aliens that allow you access to psionic power in exchange for you basically observing the world, possibly to prepare for official "First Contact", invasion, or just studies. Maybe you get some symbiotic graft from...

D&D General Dinosaurs in your campaigns

I an contemplating about at some point running a new campaign set in the Diamond Throne (3E era setting from Monte Cook, Arcane Unearthed/Evolved), and I haven't really made up my mind. But I am thinking about their being an island with some stranger or rarer creatures, among them a Tarrasque...

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

Man, Elon Musk's marketing campaign is in full swing. That is the 3rd or 4th Musk headline this week, if I am counting correctly? But I guess it drives up engagement taking about a controversial figure, and that's what we need in our attention economy.

Musk says he'll create an AI Game Studio

I don't think we need an "AI" studio, and it doesn't matter much to me if a game studio is held by a big corporation or by some billionaire. It does bother me to think that a lot of artists work are basically now capitalized on by rich corporations and rich dudes without compensating the artists...

D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

The other nice thing IMO was that you needed a Leader, not a Cleric. If you weren't interested in religious character or wanted to focus on combat with weapons, you could become a Warlord. Or if that wasn't your style, you could pick up your lute.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reducing Power Gaming

I thought the original problem was that player characters gain many powers too fast. That's definitely not something P2E would fix. P2E challege ratings can easily make combats hard, 2-3 levels of difference between player and adversaries make combat a lot harder. But you still get some new...

D&D General Does WotC use its own DMG rules?

You mean they gave what they were doing a fancy name? I think so. But that doesn't mean it was really a first for D&D and RPGs. Though I haven't played D&D before 3rd Edition, so I don't really know how much of it was already practice in other editions.

    Eric Noah's 3rd Edition Website

I am not that old to only know it is a website. I joined it when it was already a forum website, and 3E had been released for a while. Long enough for my then-newly joined and now-long-defunct gaming group to pick up the rules and started playing it.

    D&D 3.x The 4E We Didnt Get.

IIRC, bad saves where 1/3 your level and good saves were 1/2 your level +2. Also, Fighters automatically fail all Fortitude Saves against save or die effects. You still get to roll and all, but we all know how it ends. :(
