    Buried Submarine Encounter

I assume "realistic" means we don't have mutants or aliens or what not that would be lurking in there. A written account of events related to the apocalypse that are not generally known? Still incomplete, because they had to stay hidden Videomaterial of the crew's life after the apocalypse...

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

The thing to wonder about though: Is the boss fight always at the end of the day? What if you have a bunch of additional encounters that day but no boss fight? And a Fireball is good for a fight with lots of enemies, but if you're fighting an elite or solo "boss" supported by some artillery, you...

Another aspect about the encounter/daily abilities was that you could use every ability only once. That meant that even if you had found that one super exploitable always perfect power - you only had it once, and even if you had found 3 encounters and 3 dailies of that type (which probably is a...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

No, I don't need to do all of that, and I can (and did) drop some. But ultimately I want to be able to do a bit more of that than PF2E really allows, it makes character builds feel very constrained, especially because it feels like I am sacrificing combat competence vs non-combat/social competence.

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

For the character specifically: Athletics, Acobatics, Deception, Intimidate, Diplomacy, Society, Stealth are all skills that I would see as relevant for my character in his assigned story role. And if I don't keep them up, they will quickly become irrelevant because level appropriate DCs expect...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

Yeah, 3E had its own problems, that's for sure, but I think 5E and this "bounded accuracy" thing was really the best approach to skills and attacks. It allows any type of skill, attack or challenge to remain relevant, and still leaves enough room to be really good at something and make it count...

Grade the Pathfinder 2E Game System

That describes pretty well one of the things I noticed. Your character starts at 0, and you are likely going to plan your character for the next 19 levels at Level 1 (even if you might not fully realize it, but you will quickly notice that if you hadn't planned for it, it's probably not a god...

    Disney's disastrous year

The "best" conspiracy theory I've herad is that Musk was basically financially supported by the Saudi Arabians because they realized that Twitter was a useful tool used by regime-critical activists they rather not have organized or active. But I think he could have done that a lot less...

    Unpopular Geek Media Opinions

Well, the claim is that the Game of Thrones producers/writers/whateverhollywoodtitleiscorrect learnd the end Martin had in mind for the story. If they actually filmed that, they failed at his problem in a different way - they just went to the end, without making sure it feels plausible and earned.

No. Nothing yet, but I wish to know more.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minions with Damage Thresholds?

I used something similar in my 4E based Star Wars system. I had a condition you recieved for seeking cover (a minor action that required you to have some sort of cover nearby) that would reduce ranged damage in half. (I wrote the system in German, the closest translation of this condition might...

What's Your "Sweet Spot" for a Skill system?

I don't really agree that there need to be a compelling argument for a player to want average scores, but there should be a compelling reason to have any of the available scores at a high value. It makes sense to me in RPGs where different characters are often expected to work together as a...

    Most Iconic Weapons (Non-DnD)

Light Sabers: Once Star Wars used them, almost no one dared to use them again, and they are such cool looking weapons. Swords in general are cool, of course. Katana: The mystical supersword that can cut through anything because of secret steel folding techniques only known to Japanese master...

What's Your "Sweet Spot" for a Skill system?

One thing that occured to me also: Sometimes you kinda want skills to cover certain things, but not all skills are really equally important. (Sometimes based on the game itself, sometimes based on the specific campaign). It would be nice if the game has a way to highlight such skills, possibly...

RPGing and imagination: a fundamental point

I think I agree. At least when it comes to pen & paper, table top or virtual table top Roleplaying Games. You always have to imagine the fictional world to some extent and agree on it to some extent, you share your imaginations and things happen in the game because of the shared, imagined...

What's Your "Sweet Spot" for a Skill system?

The cooking discussion feels kinda like one of those EN World endless discussion cycles that stopped adding meaningful to the discussion on page 2 of 20. Every relevant argument has already been exchanged, anyone without an opinion or idea on the topic has enough material to read and learn about...

More specificially, he obtained creative control at the expense of losing Robert Hewitt Wolfe. I don't know there is any plausible scenario where Sorbo keeps the level of creative control and Wolfe stay as writer, but I think losing him hurt the most here, simply because he was the one with the...

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

I am not sure if it was this thread or some other, but I read that the monster hit points were actually increased shortly before release and weren't really well tested or reasoned. Not sure if that would make out 25 % of the hit points or not, and I think the biggest change were made in the MM2...

    D&D 4E Let's Talk About 4E On Its Own Terms [+]

Some incoherent thoughts: One of the things I noticed over time how the implied setting - which was started in the "Worlds & Monsters" books before the PHB was even released - really appealed to me. It used lots of components I knew from D&D 3E (my first D&D edition) ,put a new spin on it, and...

I am completely unbiased here, obviously, but I think that is truly an unpopular opinion. Mass Effect "sub-arcs" are much better than its meta-plot. It can be debated whether the whole idea of this super-powerful Cerebrus organization in ME2 and resourrecting Shepard was already the "jump...
