    New Design article: Elves

Lost me here. The term "retcon" would suggest "continuity," but what we're seeing with 4e is a new setting (with "points of light" and whatnot). What the name meant in older editions is scarcely relevant to this new setting. (Maybe the reuse of the name doesn't bother me at all because I wasn't...

    New Design article: Elves

It does seem that way. Elves, eladrin, and drow could be different evolutionary descendants of some ancient fey race. The elves inhabit the forests, the eladrin the mountains, and the drow the Underdark. I am quite impressed by this new offering. I can't wait to read about 4e's gno...err...

    Spell Resistance...

Careful. We don't know this is how 4e is going to work (unless I missed something), although it is an adequate description of SWSE.

    Spell Resistance...

I agree. Keeping the 3.5 spell resistance mechanics would be redundant. Spell penetration (if such a feat or talent continues to exist into 4e) could simply negate a certain amount of this bonus.

Magic : How streamlined do we want it?

Usually I am all for slaughtering sacred cows and streamlining the system, but I am absolutely with wedgeski on this one. "Ranged Magical Attack" is perfect for M&M or BESM, but it isn't what I'm looking for in D&D. Long live "Melf's Acid Arrow"!

D&D 4E Will the 4E books be "square" like Star Wars Saga?

I wouldn't mind it; I like the shape and feel of the SWSE book. IMO, It's easier to hold, read, and carry.

    Why is it so important?

This is the kind of situation which doesn't require a printed rule to govern. It's common sense that she can't swing the axe that long without getting tired.

    Schubert's Blog: MM Monster Distribution

Not sure about 3.5, but the 3.0 MM had an index that sorted monsters by CR.

PC Roles (New Design and Development Article)

I'm going to have to disagree on that one. In the fantasy setting implied by D&D, a hired killer without spells would have a very difficult time competing financially against one who could, say, turn invisible.

    "Siloing" Class Abilities

This is how I read it, also, and I share the same concerns. As long as I could still create two very different spellcasters using the same class (which isn't difficult at all for SWSE's Jedi, from what I understand), I would be very satisfied by this approach.

PC Roles (New Design and Development Article)

Wasn't rogue explicitly labeled as "Martial" somewhere?

    D&D 4E New 4e Art!

I would definitely be interested in seeing more from this artist in 4e, especially if he's allowed to break away from the generic, traditional character designs shown here.

    Do you play online D&D?

Message board (PBP) is my primary medium, although I do still participate in face-to-face games when I can (and had a blast doing so this summer!) Additionally, I'm hoping to get a Sunday night chat game rolling sometime in the next couple weeks.

What Edition of D&D was your First (with fixed Poll)

Technically started with 3.0, but almost all of my D&D experience has been with 3.5. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised at just how small a minority that puts me in around here.

I have to agree with the others. It's a fantastic thing.

    D&D 4E Fun to die in 4e?

QFT. The problem with death in D&D, IME, is not having to sit out for the rest of the session, nor is it having to "roll up" a new character. Death is unfun because you're losing a character that you enjoy playing, often as the result of some anticlimactic d20 rolls.

    Picked Up Some Wizard Powers

This is something I would be very glad to see! I believe the concept originated in Magic of Incarnum (Shape Soulmeld feat, IIRC) as a way of letting characters take advantage of the new "power source" without redirecting class levels, and I'm glad that it returned in the Bo9S (Martial Study...

D&D 3.x What will we miss from 3.5E?

I'll miss any classes that are cut, but only until they're reintroduced in 4e form. I like gnomes, but I won't shed any tears if they disappear for a while. Ultimately, though, it's hard to answer this question until we know what exactly will and will not be included. Ask me again in eight...
