DDI annoyance: a solution to forced/unavoidable continuing billing

I actually prefer this. If I had to remember to re-subscribe on my own, I'd keep forgetting. Also, if they sent emails monthly to "remind" me to go re-subscribe, I would find that highly annoying. If I don't want the service any more, I just go in and cancel it once, rather than going in on a...

D&D 4E 4E Roleplay powers (house rule idea)

I was watching the movie Serenity the other day, and near the end of the movie there is a scene where Malcom Reynolds faces off against The Operative. He ends up "stunning" The Operative and dislocating his shoulders, preventing him from retailiating. Then, he goes into monologue (as one would...

The keyword just means that YOU have to be wielding/using a weapon to use this power. Thats all.

D&D 4E Forked Thread: Some Thoughts on 4e

How is this much different than 3e though? A Wizard in 3E still had to choose between which spells he used. If you chose to memorize another spell over Dispel Magic, and an encounter came up where you really needed that Dispel Magic, then you'd be in the same perdictament no matter if it was...

    Standing up while teleporting?

Prone is a condition that is placed upon a person. In order to remove this condition, you can Stand Up as a Move Action as described on page 292 of the PHB. Unless a power/feat/ability specifically says that it removes the prone condition or that you can use it to "get back on your feet" (in...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

Just to go off on a tangent for a minute... I've noticed that the Barbarian powers are called Evocations (like how Clerics use Prayers, Wizards use Spells, Fighter use Exploits). So this leads me to believe the Sorcerer will indeed be Primal (as opposed to Arcane) and also use Evocations. So...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

Here is another question about Rage Strike... So, at level 5 you get your 2nd Daily Attack Power (ie your 2nd Rage). Lets say I use my 1st level Daily and rage. I then want to expend my 5th level daily and use Rage Strike. In order to use Rage Strike, I am required to have at least 1...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

I agree, but you only get 1 daily ability at level 1 (ie 1 Rage) as it is. I call that pretty minor. If it is keyed off of a secondary ability score, you can at least have the option of using it more than once/day. This is actually a very good point...

    is it possible to multiclass?

The DM is the one who controls what NPCs a PC party faces. It is not recommended nor encouraged for a DM to "build" NPCs using the rules for making PCs. Also, there is no "Warlord" or "Rogue" in the MM that I am aware of, so no worries there either.

Spells in Three Dimensions, Looking for some DM Rulings

That also means that people who are flying would never be able to fly overtop of anyone else, as you can't occupy the same square. And people on the ground would be prevented from walking through a "square" where someone is flying, even if they were 1,000 above in the air. Since you can't...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

Sure it is... Paladins for example have that limitation for Lay on Hands. I take it you haven't played/seen the Paladin in play yet?

Can you lower your own hitpoints?

No. Because the rules don't say that you can. And you couldn't do this in previous editions either, which lends support that you can't do it in this edition unless it is specifically called out somewhere that you can. That said, there is always the Blood Mage paragon class, which is the...

Can you choose to reduce the area of an AE power?

If you have a Blast 4 power (for example), can you choose to lower it to a Blast 2, so that it takes up a smaller area? Or must you always use the power to its full effect?

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

But the other strikers in the PHB have "extra damage" they can deal that do not expend any resources (Rogue's sneak attack, Ranger's Hunter's Quarry, and Warlock's curse), let alone cost that precious daily ability. If they wanted Barbarians to be a striker class, shouldn't they have a similiar...

I think my character is broken. :-(

Everything else isn't extra. Everything else is extra only when scoring a critical hit. Read it again... If another bonus (like from a weapon or feat) causes you to roll extra damage dice when scoring a critical hit. Since Sneak Attack damage has nothing to do with scoring a critical hit, if...

    Minions and hps

Actually, it doesn't mean that at all. What it means is that your DM is thoughtful, and knows how to play the NPCs and BBEG using the rules provided. You should be grateful of this.

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

Ok, so what does Rage do by itself that makes it worth having as opposed to Rage Strike? Why would I ever choose a daily power that I never planned on using in the first place? Lets hope so!

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

It just seems strange that they would give you a class feature that you have to wait until level 5 to actually use, or rely on a magic item to use (which the designers specifically said they were trying to get away from people designing characters based around magic items). Class features...
