    When Fantasy Racism gets stupid

I like to use "good" orcs and "bad" orcs... I also like to use "good" demons as well as the traditional "always evil" demons. Most players/DMs see devils and demons as unredeemable evil, and there are no drawbacks to killing one. For example, most players/DMs allow Paladin's to kill a demon...

    Dwarf and poison.

Evolution... Human life expectancy used to be 40s at one point in history too. Even ask Rick Stodard, he never thought of 23 as middle aged.

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

As does a Wizard. Both have the same resource here (hit points), so you can't really use that as a comparrison. What they differ in is attack type/style. One swings a mundane weapon round after round, the other uses spells which will eventually run out. Thats the point.

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

But D&D goes against the whole "luck and skill" thing, which it is trying to argue for. A hit is not always a hit, and a miss is not always a miss (look at attacks which still deal damage on a miss). If a 60 hit point Fighter falls 60 feet and takes 25 points of damage, did he really take that...

Looking to get some advice on ninja builds

Thanks for the advice. I definately like the Sap idea, but not for this particular character. I have a character concept in mind for that one, but will probably be Rogue and not Ninja.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

I'm still not buying what HP represents. And yes, I know, its pretty much always been this way in D&D. Their example... A Fighter with 10 hit points gets bit by a spider for 3 damage. Barely a hit, but just enough so he has to make a fort save vs the poison. So what happens when that same...

Looking to get some advice on ninja builds

We usually do 25 point buy. I am not sure what level I will be starting with this particular character. If I play in the current campaign, it would probably be around level 8 or so. If I save this particular character for a new campaign, then assume level 1. I guess I'd like to build it from...

Looking to get some advice on ninja builds

Was wondering if anyone has any good builds for a ninja. I'm not quite sure where to start or what road to go down, I just know I want to make one. I had two thoughts... One is a generic ninja that can do a little bit of everything as far as combat tricks go. So I'd like to take the...

Pathfinder 1E What are your Pathfinder houserules?

We used a roll that when you roll a nat 1, you miss. But you must then make a DC 10 Dex check to see if you drop your weapon or not (if melee) or some other effect (bow string breaks, crossbow trigger breaks, etc).

    Alignment in D&DN...

Also, without some sort of alignment mechanic, you are removing the traditional spells such as Detect Evil and Protection from Evil... Alignment is not subjective (see my sig below)... If someone casts Detect Evil on a murderer, they are going to ping evil. Its not like you can argue "Well...

    Alignment in D&DN...

Our group rates each other... We have our individual alignments written down and do not share with one another. Then, after a few sessions, the DM asks each player to rate one another as far as what we feel that person's alignment is. So in a group of 5 players, you get 4 people chiming in...

    Chuck Finale (spoilers)

I agree. It was the greatest ending ever, but at least they didn't screw it up like most TV series finales end up doing. It was a satisfying ending.

How many roles should there be?

Good points. But when you play D&D and most roleplaying games for that matter, there is an assumption that eventually you will be fighting something. They have books dedicated it, Monster Manuals. The Monster Manuals have traditionally been full of combat statistics. And yes, there is fluff...

How many roles should there be?

I will echo what I posted in an alternate thread... I'd like to see Classes not defined by roles. I'd like to see a "support" Fighter (basically the 4e Warlord), or a "tank" Wizard (ie a melee wizard), or a Rogue "healer" (which could be a Bard). I think a Class should define how you go about...

How many roles should there be?

I like that 4e was built around a party of 5 characters. It only had 4 roles, so the 5th character could overlap with heals, or damage, or defender-ness. I think they should continue to balance encounters around 5 characters. I think it is important to define what the purpose of a role is...

How many roles should there be?

Picking a role does not limit your ability to roleplay your character. They have nothing to do with one another. Apples and oranges here.

What would you rather see: core rulebook or traditional trilogy?

I like the 3 books. One for Players, one for DMs and one detailing monsters. The main reason is that it is cheaper for the players to just get one book (though I tend to buy all of them anyway). The other reason is the binding goes a lot quicker on a 500 page book containing everything. Much...

    Getting rid of "Taking 10"

But what about checks where failure is a possibility, but you can also retry? In this case, Take 10 and Take 20 would apply. If I want to Gather Info, and roll poorly, I may not get any information. But nothing is stopping me from trying to Gather Information again (there are always new...

Adapting a video game concept to D&DN

I'd like to see Classes not defined by roles. I'd like to see a "support" Fighter (basically the 4e Warlord), or a "tank" Wizard (ie a melee wizard), or a Rogue "healer" (which could be a Bard). I think a Class should define how you go about doing things (Fighters swing a sword and use other...
