Just a bit of a thought experiment here.
Imagine if you have just been handed the position of CEO of WOTC. In it's current state what would you change? What would you keep? Is there anything you would abandon and what new direction would you take?
I can also see applications in police use, especially for maintaining federal, provincial/state and municipal laws and acts, as well as for a means of filling out the tremendous amounts of paperwork that has to be done on a daily basis.
I have been running my homebrew, Morvia since 1987 (way back in 1E days) and it has gone through all of the iterations of D&D except 4E. It even went under the ruleset of Warhammer FRP. It is now operating under the Pathfinder rules.
In that time I have amassed a huge amount of information...
The above pretty much sums up the question I was asking. Although technology will certainly enhance, improve, facilitate and ease the way we utilize the information we access in terms of ttrpgs, in and of itself it will not "innovate" or "revolutionize" our hobby. Those advance may innovate and...
As we all know, the gaming industry from time to time goes through a tremendous revolution or innovation that turns the industry on it's ear. For example, Magic: The Gathering. With a new approach to playing card games with it's own unique background, and style of play it nearly single-handedly...
I'm currently slogging through The Silmarillion by Tolkien as my main read and will move onto Unfinished Tales after that.
Once done I will be reading God's War: A New History of the Crusades by Christopher Tyerman.
And interspersed between those I'm also reading The Atlas of Legendary Lands...
So now that 2009 is coming to a close we have had another eventful year in the RPing industry. With that in mind, what were the highlights for you in 2009? What were some of the low points and what do you look forward to in 2010?
I'll start,
Highlights:
Pathfinder RPG
Actually getting a group...
The first issue I have with this thing is that it has Microsoft's name on it. They don't exactly have the best reputation for manufacturing software that works very well or hardware (XBox 360 I'm looking at you) that doesn't fail due to overheating or whatnot.
My current game and gaming table...
Yeah that was some brutal reviewing on their part. Some games are certainly more difficult for some, I will concede that point but this just sounds like they needed to get this article done in a hurry and simply glossed over the rules.
I don't know, I wasn't there at the games I guess.
There are no game stores in little old Stonewall, Manitoba. Winnipeg has a number of game stores, but none have really won me over as a loyal customer...yet.
As you can tell from my join date and post count, I don't post much. Mainly I don't have the time but in addition, I don't really like to. I find that if there is a discussion and I decide to join said discussion, someone typically comes along to deconstruct a post line by line (not necessarily...
I'm no longer an active customer of WoTC anymore since 4E. It was a choice I made based on my gaming needs, not on the decisions by WoTC. WoTC didn't lose me as a customer because of their business practices. In regards to the decision to stop selling their PDF versions of D&D I find it hard to...
However 'Colour of Right' comes into play here in terms of possession. You are right about the difference between downloading and distribution but mens rea does apply.
WOTC is talking about the fact that they were downloaded illegally. Not how they are being used. I arrest a lot of people for theft in my line of work. Just because someone steals a book from a store (or from a person who already bought it), puts it on their shelf and never reads it until the...
As some may know already I'm a police officer. I have had many jobs in the past but this one is by far the coolest to me. It's weird to think that I have become the success that I have always wanted to be. I had doubts that I could make it but here I am! :)
