I'm not sure, but I think you probably could just hook up two together as an ad-hoc network. But to battle with anyone anywhere, you would have to be in a Wi-Fi spot. Failing that, there is a peripheral you can buy that hooks up to a PC's USB slot, and you can share its internet.
