Mutants and Masterminds - Move up to 2nd edition?

I was in an similar position. But I did buy M&M2E (Some friends were playing it). I am glad I did. It is overall a much tighter system, it makes more sense, and lets you make characters easier than 1E. 1E is a perfectly servicable game, but 2E is better in several ways.

    Community Supporter Account Extended

As you requested here is a reminder. My CSA was set to expire in August. I bought a CSA today. Hope that adds on rather than just gives me to now. Those two months may come in handy. Steve

$50 burning a hole my pocket

My wife gave me a gift certificate to my FLGS for $50. I play M&M and run some Arcana Evolved. I don't really want to start playing anything else. So, what supplement, monster book, or other thing should I get? Not a big fan of splatbooks, nor interested in settings books unless they do...

    Arcana Unearthed Magic System?

The magister does seem more powerful (and of course more flexible), but there are some factors in the game that balance that. 1. All spellcasters can heal (magisters better than some) so, typically a good portion of the magister's spell slots get used for that. While that might seem to make one...

    Elimination of stats

I played around with a stat-free homebrew. I didn't use D&D as the backdrop though. The whole system was homebrewed. Instead of stats players defined certain "Strengths" and "Weaknesses" for their characters. Then they could make a case for their "Strength" giving them a modifier to any task...

    No Homosexuality in my Campaign?

I think you are over thinking this. It is a fantasy game. So, there can be pretty much whatever you want. It sounds to me like you are trying to rationalize a desire not to have homosexuals in your world. That's fine, but don't try to justify it with some quasi-scientific/historical...

    Firing into a melee

That is basically what I meant. I interpret the dex issue to mean any AC bonus that actually involves the attack failing to touch the target (rather than being stopped by a barrier, armor, shield, or deflected). For simplicity's sake I often just rule that cover is cover, end of story. But if...

    Firing into a melee

Of course it is slightly more complicated. If that attack (on the cover) would not land a ranged touch attack on B (in otherwords, B has a decent dex or dodge bonus) then the attack doesn't hit B (the cover) and in fact hits C.

    Sneak attack w/Ray of Frost?

Keep in mind... if it only works when a target is denied its dex bonus. Then your spellcaster/rogue is getting a sneak attack against AC 10 or less (if large). Since the Ray of Frost bypasses Armor and Natural Armor Bonuses, and with dex they lose their dex and dodge bonuses. There might be some...

How do I make my undead adventure interesting for the rogue?

You could make some really powerful undead that are busy doing stuff. I had an entier city of undead (they were building enormous Egyptian style monuments). They would attack any living creature on sight, and there were too many of them for must parties to fight directly. Of course, a sneaky...

    Fumble on firing into melee

First: In many cases firing into melee does have a good chance of hitting your friends, that is assuming you are using the hitting cover rules. If your target gets cover from your ally, even if you have precise shot, or are taking the -4 penalty, there is an additional penalty (typically -4...

variant XP system - eliminating XP

My current AU game uses this method. Roughly. I don't calculate XP but I sort of figure the 13 encounter rule in my mind. What I do that might be different is that all level advancement is at the completion of some goal. For instance. Siege and Capture the Keep. Once they did it, they went up...

Arcana Unearthed - Mage Blade question

Case in point... last gaming session. Low magic world (in fact only the 6th level Mage Blade has a magic weapon). Six players... Giant3/Warmain3, Giant1/Champion5, Unfettered1/Totem Warrior5, Mageblade6, Runethane 6. They encounter a single shadow. It sucked down an average of 4 points of...

DM Question: Ditching Old Characters Without Dying

I personally do not penalize people for dying, It think it makes people too cautious. But I think that is besides the point, because dying is not an analogical case. I would ask the following: if you introduced a new player into your group, what level or XP would you allow her to play? Instead...
