    Paladin/Cleric help

You could be a hybrid Ranger|Cleric. Grab a pair of swords, twin strike in melee, heal with cleric powers, and you're all set. Battle Cleric's Lore helps with good AC. You will get Perception through Ranger. Only attack stat you care about is strength, and you're not relying on another stat for...

    A few Rule Questions

Depends on the "attack". I've seen this ruled either way with good reason. But there are 3 possibilities: If there is an actual sword (:melee:) symbol next to the power, and there is an actual attack roll, then yes, the fighter's combat challenge will most certainly be triggered. (e.g. Grell...

    Werewolf without being a Shifter?

I thought Pack Outcast was Human and Shifter, so I don't think Genasi Pack Outcast will fly, at least, not RAW, and not in CB. Initiate of the Old Faith will work, if you are a Str/Wis Warden, rather than Str/Con. You can just simulate it with fluff really. You're the perfect class for it...

    Maximizing attack bonus

You're a dragonborn. Don't forget your +1 to hit while bloodied. You can debuff enemy defenses. Hellfire and Brimstone Theme will give you a nice 2 round debuff. Harper Theme is another nice accuracy boosting option. You could pick up Bravo multiclass for two rounds of +2 against a target...

    New Math and Minions

I don't know if there is anything official, but here are my minion damage guidelines, and they seem to jive reasonably well with what's published. Standard minion: (Level/2) + 4 Brute minion: +25%, or makes attack when it dies, or makes attack with some other condition. Skirmisher minion: +25%...

Undead etc "Loose a Surge" !!!

I had a dog named Surge once. I let him loose on undead all the time and he did quite well, particularly against skeletons. He loved leg bones.

    need help with character creation

I hesitate to say this, but look at some other swordmage builds to see if there is some build other than ensnaring you might like to play, particularly if this is your first time. It's kind of a frustrating defender for the rest of the party, as other than providing a -2 to hit against your...

Post your Lair Assault Results Here (Spoilers)

Sad to hear. One question, I thought the challenge was for 5 PC's, does it scale for 4-6?

    Success, Failure and the D20

60-65% hit rate is the system agnostic magic number for me. On a d20 this happens to be 8+ or 9+. On a d6, the magic number is 3+ (67%). In board games you will frequently see dice with 4 symbols of success and 2 of failure. Even in a game system where the odds aren't quite clear cut, and there...

What's a good starting level for a "You are mighty heroes" campaign?

I don't see an Arthurian campaign as high level D&D, defnitely not epic. Depending on how long you intend for the campaign to be I'd try and stay away from the high teens and twenties. High teens may be all right at the end. So I would run the campaign level 6-16 or maybe 5-18. That's a fairly...

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

It does. Fixed probability is what casinos make their money on ;) Also works for many simpler board games. But for tactical games, such as miniature games, and D&D, modifiers are the bread and butter of tactics. You can simplify them, but don't want to get rid of them.

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

Unfortunately, they mucked up that option when they made powers that scale +3/6/9, the Hunter class that gets free expertise feat, and random feats that give feat bonuses to hit, such as Draconic Spellcaster, Feyborn Charm, and the like.

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

We just need one general idea for expertise feats. With all weapon and implement attacks and with non-weapon non-implement attack powers that scale +2/4/6, you gain a +1/2/3 feat bonus to hit. Every expertise feat can have the above text. Then add the special benefit, if you're using X, you...

And works only with at-will powers. Some of these expertise feats seem handicapped, some are okay but unimpressive, a few are decent to good, and one is encouraging things that don't need more encouragement.

    Do we need a Leader?

Actually leaderless combats are fast and furious. You have two options. Kill them fast, or die. With MM3 damage expressions in play, a leaderless party is going to have difficult encounters and short adventuring days if you stick with recommended XP budgets and use good monsters tactics...

Confusing wording in Shielding Spirit feat

A is correct. Otherwise, the wording would be "allies gain +2 to all defenses, while adjacent to your spirit companion." See Protector Spirit Adept as an example. No "while" means the effect is instantaneous.

    Your best Monster

My favorite monster is not on the list. Human. They are the most devious, cunning, deceitful, treasonous, greedy, selfish, and villainous creatures in existence. Edited to add: when you positively have to kill everything on the planet, humans most certainly do a better job than the terrasque.

Need some wilderness encounter building help/ideas

Have their land caught in a turf war between gnolls and trolls. Normally the gnolls could easily outsmart the trolls, but there is a sinister triad of witches guiding the trolls for their own purpose. The gnolls perhaps got resourceful and struck a deal with a green dragon, not realizing the...

    PC Body Switch: Bad Idea?

As for game mechanical advice, just make sure there is no more than 1-2 easy combat encounters while they are switched, sprinkle in a roleplaying encounter and a skill challenge. Limit the characters to at-will powers while they are in the wrong body. In the second combat encounter, they figure...

    PC Body Switch: Bad Idea?

It could be fun for an episode, though definitely shouldn't drag. The players have to play it up though. The wizard in the barbarian body cuts a goblin in half with his axe, then turns around and says "dude, you're really strong, but that blood spatter is gross!" Then the barbarian in the wizard...
