The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Actually, I'm sort of imagining something like the final scenes of Time Bandits, when Evil is blowing up his minions and they're all relishing the thought. Except the one he turned into a sheepdog, which blew up with a rather plainitive howl, iirc....

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

Somehow I don't think it affected his Blue Beetle gig. Still, the bit of extra time from not writing TV/Movies etc, I can see that helping with the playtesting. ;) On the more on-topic note, I'm really liking hearing the from-the-DM perspective stuff. That's my main gig usually these days...

    D&D 4E Mouseferatu weighs in on 4e

I'm really hoping they can keep their briefly-mentioned semi-promise of "longer in rounds, shorter in realtime" combat. That would be the best of both worlds.

Scaling +X weapons/implements with character level

I can only see one slight catch with tying the + directly to the characters -- and that's in the bonus critical dice that they've said magical weapons will provide. My guess is you'll have to take a close look at exactly how that'll work and figure out a way to work it in if you want to make...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

Well, since the article mentions neck slot is for either amulet or cloaks, I think it'll be ok. Sure, not everyone will have the magic amulet -- folks like the ranger/fighter/rogue will gravitate towards the cloaks and such.

    WotC_Bruce serves the dragon

Well, the thing is, he didn't actually put on the ring. All he did was see a shiny silver ring on the bony finger of a skeleton and steal it. It was the act of taking the ring that triggered the mayhem which followed. Nowhere in the playtest report even mentions the ring beyond the fact that...

D&D 4E How do you feel about 4E right *now*? (week of 1/21/08)

Actually, they've stated that there are going to be explicit quest rules, and that the DM can even hand out quest cards as reminders for the players. If I recall correctly, that caused a bit of consternation and cries "Ack -- they're going to require you to buy collectible quest cards" and...

    Your First Character? (with crunch)

Well, considering one of my last characters was a Bariaur (Planar Handbook variant) who was convinced a teddy bear was the real hero and he was just its "mount," it really wouldn't matter if the raven really was a conduit to the Raven Queen or not. I find a bit of delusion and outright...

Large red dragon mini with only 5 fire resist...

However, it also makes much more sense to assume that, just like a venomous snake's mouth is adapted such that it doesn't envenom itself when it's biting something, a dragon's mouth would be adapted to having odd substances or energies coming out of it. That doesn't necessarily mean that the...

    D&D 4E Reinvisioning the Halfling for 4E

So, I guess the real question is.... How many of us are deathly afraid that every halfling played once 4th Ed is release is going to sound like a bad version of Gambit from the X-Men?

Bits and Pieces of Worlds & Monsters

I'm almost hoping Shadar-kai will have a stub of "use them as PCs" in the back of the MM like a few others (Gnome, Warforged) are expected to get. That would be nifty as all get-out. Dunno if I'd use 'em, but the option would ROCK.

D&D 4E What will you do first with the 4E PHB?

Mmm, could be, but more likely will be working furiously on the 4E campaign I'm going to be DMing. Already have the town and environs worked out, plus a couple of cave complexes drawn. All that really needs done is populating them and throwing in hints of plot. And.... aww damn. Just...

D&D 4E What will you do first with the 4E PHB?

Spend a solid week at home poring over it, the DMG and MM. No, seriously -- I took the week it's released as a vacation week at work.

    D&D 4E When will 4E break?

It'll break properly the first time someone douses one of the books in liquid nitrogen and then tosses it off of a roof....

D&D 4E 4e Heal info in new Confessions article

Ahh, a DM after me own black heart. Truly, the fun isn't in killing PCs -- the fun is in taking them to the brink of death time and time again, until they begin to wonder if they might be better off that way. Still, the occasional gruesome death can go a long ways towards giving the survivors...

    D&D 4E The Blood War in 4E?

Plus, there's still plenty of opportunity for "incidental" conflict between the two. After all, demons want to destroy everything -- and said universal destruction would be decidedly inconvenient in regards to the devils' attempts to rule everything. That gives plenty of opportunity for a...

    New Quickling

I think it's already been said, but I'm getting a very heavy "Pan's Labyrinth" vibe from the redesign of the fey for 4th ed. The quickling for sure has the feel of the faeries from that flick. As an aside, on the page with the quickling, there's a couple other fey portrayed -- including the...

    Dragon -> Human/Humanoid Innate Polymorph

Some of the most fun I've had DMing dragons has been using ones polymorphed into humanoid form. In my last Eberron campaign, the party found themselves working with the orcs who battle fiends in the demon wastes. One of the first ones they met in the hidden city was a cheerful female orc...

    Encounter planning wackiness?

Yeah, I'm hoping that's changed. Or at least it has as an unstated corollary: "3 normal and 1 elite," which would make sense and still work out to "one per character."

D&D 4E Opinions on the 4E preview books...

The FLGS I go to ran out of R&C about 3 days after it came out. I know -- I bought one the day of release, then went back that same week to buy another copy -- as a Christmas gift for one of the people I play D&D with. I expect much the same for W&M, at least in this neck of the woods.
