    "Science" as a power source?

Hmmm, maybe they should toss most of the vision-altering powers into the "Science" power source, which would inevitably result in the following exchange: Ogre brute: "GAH! She blinded me!" Gnome Technomancer: "With SCIENCE!" (le sigh, and I though I'd scanned to see if this joke had already...

D&D 4E New Information on 4E Classes from Races & Classes Book

But it does say exactly what it means: "Feather me yon oaf," is simply an archaic way of saying, "Hey, guys, see that annoying fellow over there? Shoot him now. Lots." Thus allies can immediately draw their ranged weapons and fire. :)

D&D 4E New Information on 4E Classes from Races & Classes Book

I dunno about you guys, but I actually really LIKE that one Warlord ability name: "Feather Me Yon Oaf!" Flavorful, distinctive and says exactly what it does. So, it's a mouthful. It's a FUN mouthful.

    D&D 4E Casual DM - 4E made for ME

I'm a huge fan of "seat-of-the-pants" DM-ing. I often actually draw a dungeon map AS I'm sending the PCs thru it; so, yeah, same for all of the above as far as 4th Ed goes. Of late, I've been using MM V exclusively, as it's got 1) interesting monsters of all ranges, 2) easy-to-read stat blocks...

What I don't get RE: FR and High Level NPC's

A while back, when the whole Githyanki Invasion campaign hooks were roaming thru Dragon & Dungeon, I decided to take that and run with it; and place the PCs in Aglarond, with the opening salvo happening next door in Thay. There were questions about where the Simbul was but they initially were...

D&D 4E Post here if you ARE going to 4E!

If I say that I've scheduled June 8-15 as a vacation week just so I can pore over the books, where does that put me? ;)

    The Mortal God

I've got a fledgling idea that is almost the opposite of the whole "kill the gods" idea: the power of the old gods has been diminished in many areas by a ruthless inquisition spearheaded by a cabal of men who aim to replace the gods entirely. The old gods hold sway only in remote bordertowns...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

And if the smites were based off of Strength and physical prowess, then uncontrolled bursts would make sense. However, they're not; Charisma and/or Wisdom are the relevant stats, meaning it's not just an uncontrolled burst of divine energy. The paladin is using his force of will and inner fire...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

The thing is, we've only seen the paladin's smite abilities which would naturally be tied to clobbering things. The ability to smite is simply one of the things they can do, and you simply can't generalize based off of these three smites we've seen. He may very well have ways to buff and heal...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

I think the intimation is that it's gamist design and therefore it is awful; at least, that's the way I read it. I'd argue that any mechanic that's stripped of relevant flavor, as these appear to have been, will always resemble gamist design more than simulationist. There's many, many ways you...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

But at the same time, the paladin has always had little to no ability to handle enemies at range. This is really no different.

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

And in Divine power source terms, using the force of your own personality backed up with power granted by your deity of choice to cause enemies to fear what might happen to them if they attack an ally of yours (again, giving the AC bonus) also is perfectly reasonable. Even if you miss, the...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

Could even be smite x/encounter, maybe 2 or 3 times tops, I'd guess. With combat lasting more rounds (but being faster or at worst same amount of time as current), that would still require decisions on when and which to use.

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

How do you figure? It's similar to the 3.x ability for the Sorcerer to occasionally swap out a known spell at certain levels. Also, Bo9S had a mechanic where at odd levels the 3 classes gained new abilities, while at even levels they could swap out an old ability for a different one. That was...

New Design & Development: Paladin Smites!

It's not giving the allies better ARMOR per se. Look at it this way; it's a Charisma-based ability -- that means it's powered by the Paladin's own force of personality. As a non-fantasy analogy, think of one of the final sequences in Aliens. Ripley coming out in the power loader and laying...

Adding another log. Lightning Panther Strike.

But what if there's a counterpart ability for lazy, fat, immobile barbarians called "Slothful Panther Strike" that they use when someone gets in range (and they actually decide to expend the effort) to bite them wherever happens to be close to the barbarian's mouth?

Do you like the name "Golden Wyvern Adept"?

I'd've voted, but there's no option for: "It's a complete and total non-issue and thus I have zero opinion one way or another." Honestly, it ain't worth gettin' worked up about.

    D&D 4E 4E Pantheon Poll

Heh, and when I DM'd it, I had a tragic surprise waiting for the party upon their exit. You know that gnome you can rescue? Poor feller didn't ever make it out. Slipped and fell just before he reached the top of the rope out, he did. The party found his lifeless, broken corpse at the bottom...

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what a Martial Controller would look like?

Could be Barbarians -- give them sweeping Area attacks with two-handed weapons (affects all enemies [and allies] within weapon reach of you), speed to intercept and control enemy movement, fear-based powers generated by battle cries, and later on (Paragon to Epic levels) massive physical blows...
