D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

TIL stars hold grudges :) thanks for that fantastic summary of events there though @Steampunkette !

    Did the nerds win?

I believe there was a mod post pointing out one piece of wording that is generally against the terms and conditions. Otherwise, I think above post is possible better portraying your views of the split, where the original post could be taken as you supporting the position that indie RPG is the...

Itch.io Down Thanks to Funko Pop's "AI"

Indeed from what I was seeing, Dickens and Twain at least fought for stronger copyright laws than were in place.

Wizards of the Coast's Archetype Entertainment to Publish Exodus TTRPG Based on Upcoming Exodus Video Game

If I read / understood right, it was suggested that these could be two potential outcomes you could see, where only one or the other would occur depending on your actions, and given the continual time skipping effects you're facing due to time dilation at speeds you are going at, you will see /...

D&D General Drow as in Cow or Drow as in Snow: Where did the Dark Elves Come From?

Snarf was talking about taking a break for a week - may have requested a Mod to do temp ban so wasn't tempted to come back and post?

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

For an investigative journalist , does seem to be a lot of inaccuracies in the post.

D&D General Just sweeping dirty dishes under the rug: D&D, Sexism, and the '70s

Does seem a bit of a mixture lately really of different books, and agree marketing does seem to play up the Space Marines as heroes, but then you get books like Day of Ascension by Adrian Tchaikovsky come out just 2 years ago (so more recent than the Warhammer Adventures books) that shows why...

Trying to Describe "Narrative-Style Gameplay" to a Current Player in Real-World Terms

Hopefully this doesn't isn't too long that I'm necroing the thread, but in regards to the initial question, I've been thinking on this, and based on my (probably limited) understanding of narrative style gameplay, I'd put it as the difference between the Lord of the Rings books to the Lord of...

Upcoming AAA/AA CRPGs or story-based RPGs (updated 15/04/2025)

I like the Trails series, JRPGs but I think pretty good the ones I've played, and always seems to be one coming up, though gets confusing with lag between Japanese release and English release, and at least one remake coming up, which makes it tricky to specify a title that may fit.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I believe one key thing around rogue-likes is being procedurally generated, so each run through would be different, allowing for quite different expectations / possibilities of scoring. Whereas my memory of a lot of arcade games were that they weren't random, so could learn from each play...

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

I liked the way Fre League did it with Alien starter set - inasmuch as if you wanted to keep playing their cinematic scenarios being released, you could just use the starter set rules and core book not required. The core book would give more options, and allow for more free form campaigning...

D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E DMs?

For me, I feel that type of quantity doesn't quite match up to what I'd like, albeit I understand why they do it they way they do. My preference would be a bit less adventures, and a bit more lore / setting type books instead, though on that note happy to see the two forgotten realms books...

    Poll: Heavily Non-Canon Star Wars

Assuming WEG is West End Games - they didn't do a Star Trek RPG did they? Only Star Wars. Similarly FASA did Star Trek, but not Star Wars. I wonder if prior poster is confusing Star Trek for Star Wars in the prior post, thinking Aramis was talking about Star Wars RPG, when talking while...

D&D 5E (2024) New DMG Encounter Building Math vs 2014

I think though there is a difference between saying the rules are there to make a game, and not accurate model physics/ economy, and saying that means the players are supposed to be uber powerful squashing everything along the way.

    [Fighting Fantasy] House of Hell

Ah found it, while unarmed you take a -3 penalty to skill checks

    [Fighting Fantasy] House of Hell

Minimum starting skill is 7 though isn't it? So sounds like something happened to drop it, else bug, rather than getting it down wrong initially.

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

This is where IMHO Herbert muddies his own waters. Dune then Dune Messiah were looking to show the dangers of putting trust in / following heroes, but then later books suggest Paul and Leto were right to do what they did, and humankind would have lost a lot of lives or gone extinct if they...

New review critical of DUNE: PART TWO based on the depiction of Chani

while I don't have a problem with the changes Villenueve made, I'm not sure he achieved this part that well, or at least he triggered an abrupt change. There seemed to be a pivot point after the Harkonnens raided that Femen home, where the Fremen wanted him to go south but he didn't want to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Sword Coast population data from 2024 D&D Pocket Expert

Rome did get to 1 million at it's peak, so twice the size in a place that is more advanced and with magic available doesn't feel too much of a stretch to me.
