D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

"How does someone sat they have not seen Record of the Lodoss War, without saying it." I am just being silly, I apologize. If memory serves, the Lodoss novels, manga, and anime from the 80s and 90s was based on the writer's own D&D ttrpg story lines. They called it "replays," essentially...

    Dragonbane Announces Two New Books

I've had two campaigns and only 1.75 deaths. One true death by combat rolls and the other two were player inspired (one sacrificed themselves to a demonic deal and the other wanted to switch PCs for a while.) OTH, I never ran that adventure either. My players are looking for more magic as three...

Outgunned Adventure Is Smart As A Whip

I think Index Card RPG does this as well, with the whole room/encounter being the same level of challenge. OTH: For those not so enthused with the "all enemies are one" abstraction, the Cypher system bases every challenge as a level of difficulty but still keeps the sources of those...

D&D General WizKids Issues Refund for Baldur’s Gate 3 Character Boxed Set

While most of those seem to be in the range of mass pre-painted minis, the first one looked like it fell on the floor, got stepped on and then snuck into a box.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

This is true, the beta 5e rules offered a take that gave you three options for warforged. But something can be diverse and still have touchstones of design. You can have a car and a pickup fulfill different functions and looks but you can still drive either one essentially the same way. Both...

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I am confused What is canon in this case? Using the same standards is there no canonical look for elves or dwarves? Not trying to be a smart alec, but wondering what basis the canon is coming from.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

The examples we have of mechanical looking beings so far are below. The first one is more likely the "Iron Man" artificer. The others could be a steel defenders or not. If they are steel defenders then the Warforged have been strangely absent in the marketing for this Eberron product. In the...

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

There's the story that the Bruce Sterling and William Gibson gave Steampunk its "punk" because it was the opposite cyberpunk, which they felt had gone mainstream. :ROFLMAO: So it was anti-anti-establishment

That's oversimplifying what an artistic movement is.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I never got that involved in PF* and a being a big Eberron fan during it's 3e era, I have the opposite reaction. Proof that art is subjective. :ROFLMAO: But I welcome any new fans the new art brings in. 😍 *For me personally, the best part of PF was it gave players who wanted...

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

I can't pull up a sample, but I seem to remember seeing that style for the Glamorous Hollywood era or advertising. But I could be wrong.

    RPG Evolution: Dice Alternatives

Let's not forget that dice spinners are what you are allowed in prison, and dice can be used for gambling. Which is funny because spinners have been used for gambling for ages https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teetotum

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

For my two cents, D&D has had a long standing tradition of using the aesthetics from one genre and the vibe from another. The classic being its faux Medieval trappings (sliding into the Renaissance) with a Wild West vibe*. Lets not even go down the rabbit hole of the game's many anachronisms...

    RPG Evolution: Dice Alternatives

While the dice spinner is pretty, I found the triangle shaped bands a bit too vague to discern the result. On the rectangle, you have a clear line of demarcation, with the triangles, you are trying to decide where on a diagonal you need to make your judgement call.

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Alternate Cover Revealed

Believe it or not, I feel Believe it, I feel like it is the "o" in Eberron. It's octagonal shape with a filled center and diagonal cut would be right at home on a sci-fi wargame cover. It gives a sort of energy weapon muzzle vibe. The whole set piece is also a Frankenstein homage, which is...

Eberron: Forge of the Artificer Alternate Cover Revealed

Seems the second cover is leaning more into the science fiction vs the magi-punk.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Visual designs are a big inspiration in ttrpgs! The right piece of art can really get your table revved up to do a game. I had that happen to myself recently. I could never get my head around duck folk in a lot of the d100 games. Then the art in Dragonbane changed my mind. Duck assassin, sign...

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Waaaay in the back. The white ring really blends in with the pale blue sky. Art is subjective. While I think that is a cool looking airship, it doesn't scream Eberron to me. Same for the warforged. Very cool design but says more old school Asimov robot on a book cover for me than a sentient...

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

That's probably what it is but it's sort of a lose/lose for WotC. Some people will want a whole new book so all the information is one place (one reason a "core" book from a 3 pp usually sells better) while others don't want to re-buy lore they already have (as Eberron always starts in the same...
